You live in California - correct? Are you the guy they refer to in the November Excellence article as "Loop Man"?
As of now, there are two Manthey 3.9's in the country. One is mine; the other one is a green 997.1 RS, and I am 99% sure that the owner is from California.
If you want to come to Dallas, we can spend a day at Eagles Canyon Raceway. It has a long 2000 ft straight.

Good point. As with any "highly strung" engine, such as a Cup engine with 30 hrs mbo +/- there's plenty of amateur racers out there attesting to the durability of that engine "if you keep the revs down." And unless you're winning a race or driving for points or whatever, the lap time gains found above about 8K rpm are purely imaginary for all of us except the guys on the podium with sponsor dollars and professional calibre talent.
Anyway, your question prompted me to go find the Sharkwerks product page:
http://www.sharkwerks.com/products.php?pid=258
And the main chart:
![](http://www.sharkwerks.com/forum_photos/sharkwerks_kermit_evo_3_9_kit_dynos/dyno39-3.jpg)
The lower plot is a 3.6, no slouch, but not in the same league as the new RS with the 3.8 in terms of power and torque over 6800 rpm +/- ... and one could argue there's at least a little bit of ram induction on the new engine cowl.

I always wondered how they get 500hp from their 3.9L coversion when Manthey and RS tuning make "only" 450hp.
Here is the dyno (*table - engine dyno ) from the Cargraphic /RS tuning 3.9L kit with Nikasil coated steel liners (Ø 104mm), pistons with offset pins for LH/RH fitment, cats and exhaust , BMC airfilter and RS tuning Motronic conversion, limiter set to 8400.
Maybe it’s an overestimated dyno maybe not.
It will be very interesting to properly test both cars in an independent rolling dyno and on the road with a VBOX or equivalent to test if "450" can be equal to "500".

cjfan: Your observation is spot on. The Manthey engine has a very flat torque curve, and that is important when you are pulling out of tight turns on a track. Their primary focus is on racing (Manthey Racing), and that is their #1 priority. Manthey Motors always takes a backseat to Manthey Racing during the racing season.
About Fontana: That will have to wait. My wife is having a baby in four weeks, and I do not want to miss that special moment in case the baby decides he needs a ride in the GT3 sooner than I anticipate

MM3.9: Not to worry my grandson didn't show any real interest in getting behind the wheel of the 3.9 until after his 1st birthday!!

Hmmm ... driver with fixed, glazed stare, dilated pupils, pink, flushed cheeks, receding hairline ... apparently wearing "gang colors" shirt ... behind the wheel of an expensive automobile ... throw 'em in the drunk tank overnight and see if they cry like a baby in the morning ...

Shame I live in the UK as I'd take part in this!
I've got a mk1 GT3 which has a Manthey 3.9 conversion. I've attached the last dyno graph when Ansgar Wiesen did some fine tuning last December. Ansgar used to work at Manthey and designed this conversion.
Coupled with a short 5th and 6th gearset and 8:32 ring and pinion, my car shows a 997GT3RS Mk2 the way home.

And here's an indication of what it can do compared to a 997GT3RS Mk1 driven by a professional:

Manthey require a 4.1 conversion to obtain 480ps so it will be interesting to see how Sharkwerks get more than this from a 3.9
