I would bet the front lip does more to improve down force than the gurney flap. It looks like
the lip is maybe an inch lower than stock and this will allow less air to get under the car.
Creating slightly less pressure under the entire car could have a fairly significant effect on
down force. As a test you could try with the front lip and gurney flap separately to try and
quantify the effect of each.

Norbert Singer? Maybe I 'll have better luck with Ferrari's F1 chief aerodynamicist Nicholas Tombazis who is Greek and we speak the same language.

No changes to the car and 2 sessions within 1 hours, same temps, same clouds. If anything it was a bit hotter.

Also faster on the long straight because my exit speed was that much higher.
Maybe you just drove better laps in the 3rd session. I also have a hard time believing that it is due to the mods you did.

^ Peter I am not sure about my numbers above either but I just enjoy the discussion.
So leave it on and try it more, maybe I am completely wrong and it really adds more downforce besides as I said it surely looks good.
Same here , although I like the look better without the lip ;-)

Yeah, I wish I had that much improvmenet in me ;-)
I usually can guess my laptimes within 0.2-0.4 seconds before crossing the start finish because I pretty much know what corners I nailed, was on the throttle early enough and I did not screwed up any corners too bad..
If I overshoot or over-brake or have traffic all bets are off.

These 2 sessions were within 1 1/2 hours, if any change, it only got warmer and greasier.
My buddy was there with me with his own car, pretty decent driver.
Decent as in when we come off the track we agree on how much faster a session is in the morning VS slower in afternoon heat.

I could not beat my 1:188 on Sunday morning because it had rained, otherwise who knows. 1:188 was only 0.5 seconds faster than my first session (Still cool) there the day before in over a year.
I will spend some more time looking at Traqmate data, but I am not muh good at it.

Manthey tested and developed in a wind tunnel a Gurney lip for the 997GT2 and claims 8kg at 200klm without increased drag.
This add on actually extends the OEM wings surface by 5cm and at the end has a small Gurney lip that is not angled at 90deg.
Some of the 8kg of downforce come from the increase of the wings surface and angle and some from the Gurney small lip.

So assuming that your lip adds from 1kg to 4kg should be 99% accurate.

For the 997mk1 gt3 they claim 10kg front downforce from a deeper lip similar to the one you fitted and 3kg for the 997.2GT3

See you at MIRA.

Wow, for me to feel a difference let alone go 0.5 secs faster on a 1:20 laptime it would have to be more then 10KG front and rear at +/- 100 - 150mph??

Maybe it's all in my head..

I have been using the cup lip on the front of my Mk1 RS now for a track day but have yet to add the gurney strip on the rear wing. I hear that the gurney is a great cheap mod to get significant downforce on the fast sweepers. Will do that next time round....

Does the Cup front lip just bolt on to a RS.1?

Thanks!

No bolts used even, takes 5 seconds to pull it off, just pull.
You slide it back on in 10 seconds. No tools.

Gurney's absolutely work. Based on the journals I've read, there is zero drag penalty if the gurney is 2-5% of the chord length. Increase in lift is roughly 25% if kept within above specs.

I just measured it.
It's exactly 10mm, I got it from Orbit Racing.
They have them available now, I don't know the price, just call them.

At your next event, take them off, and see if you go .5 slower. Repeat, and see if the results repeat, as well.

Are Gurney lips only for freestanding wings, or do they work on spoilers as well?
