Default Titanium Torque Converter

The brown looking titanium pieces are titanium with a coating and the green coated piece is the magnesium transmission adapter; the other pieces (including the springs) are all made of titanium. Original weight of torque converter was more than 15.4 kg, now with the aluminum pieces not pictured, it is less than 6.3 kg -- and the adaptor piece saves more.

Not from a CGT, a GT2RS or even a 918 but a Porsche with a better power to weight ratio than any of them - a particular 964.

It seems the next logical step is to redesign the convertor to incorporate a lock-up.
As for power to weight, you're suggesting your 964 is over 400hp or close to 2000lb? I've seen you've done a lot to lighten the car, but I don't recall what you've done in the engine compartment, so that would be interesting to read about, too.

I've followed this project for years and it was and is an inspiration for me to lighten the GT3.
If memory serves me right the car is at 440HP and 440 Nm of torque and 1000kg.

Anything over about 400 from the air-cooled engines (and this, I presume is still a 964, not the 993) would require forced induction. I believe 9m (http://www.ninemeister.com/) is over 400 neddies and has real world examples in things like the Singer and one-off customer cars. I haven't been keeping track, but I guess you could get some off-the-shelf R+P, 9m heads, good fuel management, take it up to 8K rpm and still have a general purpose engine. Ironically, the torque convertor would help a highly strung engine.

I still have a "one of these days" project for 993 RSR clone ...

Okay -- enough thread-jacking from me ... : )

About the unique 964 America GS more here: https://rennlist.com/forums/964-foru...ed-thread.html

About the 9m engine "upgrades" when I had the 993 It was on my daily agenda to drool over them.

Indeed, we are at 2000 lbs (approximately 909 kg) and, yes, on a Porsche engine dyno, in excess of 440 HP and 440 Nm of torque - normally aspirated. As to the parts, none are 9M or any other tuner.

P.S. As to engine management, we use Bosch.

P.P.S. Maximum power is achieved below 7000 rpm.

Robert,

Impressive work as usual! Are you getting close to fire up the complete car?

One reflextion: As Porsche now is using the PDK gearbox and not wanting ( at least official ) to use it in the GT cars due to its weight penalty, wouldnt it be interesting to use your material expertise to make a "GT-version" of this gearbox and to reduce a massive amount of its weight? Think of a 991 or 998 GT2 model ( whatever they will call it ) with the new Turbo engine and this "GT-version" of the PDK gearbox. That would be of interest for quite a few buyers over the years and represent a healthy volume.

What do you think?

It could be done but without rather substantive confirmed initial orders (probably 50), it would not be prudent.

That 9M project is my favorite 993. There was a recent review from the owner on the 993 board. I too plan a 993 project one of these days. As a donor, I'd love to use a certain sunroof delete white C2S.

Robert, when you park the car, do you have to secure tight so it doesn't float away?? Great job again, love the parts.
