You can copyright a color? Hummm odd....when I worked for Pearl Drum we had a color called Ferrari Red. Sold a lot of drums in this color way back when. I work for DW now and we did a DW custom kit for Nick Mason, Pink Floyd's drummer in Ferrari Red with Ferrari logo's on each drum. We also did a Pittsburgh Steelers drum kit to for a store owner.

In order for someone to claim copyrights he has to know that you breach them.
Also I assume not all colors have a patent or copyright following them.
I painted a 96' jeep wrangler once Ferrari red. Nobody complained.

Did some research Gulf blue is not the registered copyright color of Gulf oil according to their “Gulf oil graphic standards guide”, their Gulf blue is another darker blue.
They called the racing blue we all know “pale blue” but its not mentioned as a copyright corporate color.
Btw the orange was same in the cars and in the corporate logo.
Also found that the Porsche color code for gulf blue was for MY ‘72 for Gulf Blue Code: 328 and for Gulf Orange: Code 019.

If the colour was copyrighted, then Porsche has the rights to Gulf Blue and Gulf Orange.
As both were special order colours from 1972 - 1973. With Gulf Blue continuing until 1977.
Gulf Orange - (019 Order Code)
Guld Blue - (328 Order Code)
When choosing Gulf Blue many people get it confused with that Baby Blue which came out after Gulf Blue.
Gulf Blue actually has a tinge of Red in it. Which I had no idea until someone pointed it out prior to me having my RS sprayed in Gulf Blue (328).
The first two cars are Genuine Gulf Blue (328) and the second two cars are that Baby Blue colour.

Canepa's Gulf 917 in the paddock at this weekend's Monterey Motorsports Reunion. Low resolution photos taken from my iPhone, so I hope the colors come through true.
