I have 6,000 miles in the Scud since new, no RMS leaks, original diff, original clutch, not a garage queen. My two GT3 (996 and 997) had engines out several times, even my Cayman had an engine replaced. I thought the engine out service was a Ferrari thing, but it actually is a Porsche thing.
Hey Stuttgart, anybody home? Faulty LSDs? Exploding coolant lines? Bueller? Bueller?

I recently got to compare the 458 and the and 430 Scud at the Cars and Coffee in Irvine last weekend (no, they didn't let me drive any of them). The 458 seems as it would appeal to the grand touring crowd. I guess the beefier version of the 458 is still to come? The scud looks to be all business, track wise. Just reminds me more of F430 GTC. Nice cars, but I prefer the "low-keyness" of a GT3.

If I was buying a plain Carerra S and used vs. new was within 10% of new MSRP (and assuming NO discounts off of MSRP) then I don't see myself buying used. New has no doubts. New is the way I want it. New means I'm the original owner, with no worries about what may or may not have transpired when someone owned it for such a short period of time.
But a Carrera S is something that has a lot of buyers in a more liquid market.
The RS has substantially fewer buyers, and if new buying slots aren't filled then I have a hard time seeing how it can be sold for something in the neighborhood of "only" 10% off new MSRP. And 10% off MSRP is what, $16k off.
So if the car can be unloaded for only 10-15k off then by all means, I'd do it.

i don't have to pay VAT here on any vehicles. i can register it for $30/year. i was seriously watching scud prices daily before i ordered the RS. in the end it came down to if i went back to the states, the RS can go with me no problem. The scud would have to be resold here and i'm thinking it would be even more tough down the road the way the economy is doing. besides even though you could drive a scud pretty frequently, i really think it has to be a 4th vehicle. need a porsche to track. ferrari to be a garage queen with occasional track fun. i'm not there yet. not meaning to thread jack. maybe SQ should keep the RS and find a great deal on a scud.

I will admit to having given this option some serious thought. But I would need to come to terms with putting so few miles on each that I might feel guilty. Cars would only be used on weekends (as I live in NYC during the week) and also there are about 3 months of deep winter to account for ...
The wise choice would be use the RS for a couple years and line up for the scud version 458 for 2013 as announced by Ferrari.

I'm sure eventually I'll end up owning a ferrari but my next big purchases are
1)place in NYC this offseason
2)McLaren next spring
the RS 6 weeks ago was my "way to go dude" purchase of the year
