Default Final thoughts on half cage...

Gotta make a decision on a half cage for the 10 RS. Please please give me your opinions on the best fit for me.

1. Must attach to shock towers.
2. Must allow room for my seat to go back...I'm 6'2".
3. Needs to be as light as possible. (of course)

Thanks guys...always the BEST info here for the P cars.

really light cages are carbon and aluminum cages but then again who dares?

so lightest+steel and meeting you are two criteria is the 996 gt3 clubsport factory rear cage.
was made by IVM AUTOMOTIVE GMBH for porsche and the rear weights 3kg less than any other cage porsche made after.

- Safety Devices cage, imported by Stable Energies in NJ
- plates welded in and then it bolts in
- big advantage of this cage is that the harness bar can be easily removed as it is bolted to the hoop
- the diagonal can also be removed if you choose that option
- plenty of room for seat to go all the way back

- there are probably lighter cages out there

if I remember correctly, the Stable bar bolts to a L bracket (which is welded to the tub).
I just could not get comfortable with that L bracket design.

get the factory CLUBSPORT cage from FVD or other source.

dont hurt the value of the car with a non porsche roll bar.

+1 on the factory Clubsport cage. Other choices mentioned are good but, this factory cage is more sought after and easier to sell if you want to part with down the road.

Couldn't find any pricing. Do you have some info?

Any pics of this cage installed please?

Doesn't GMG do a similar bar design or is it the same one?

Does it bolt to the shock towers? I went that route last time and don't remember if it did. But my stock seats presented a problem going back. Better with these seats?

Clarifying,
I mean the factory bar that bolts to the rear shock towers and in some cases with the earlier MK1 RS's bolted directy to the floor plates just behind the front seats. There is room behind for seat movement. This is not the Porsche Tech bar.
Hope this helps.

I will check with my dealer. Anyone know where it can be had at a good deal? Some things my dealer has a great price and then some notsomuch. My 1st RS had the plates. Have to weld them in now?

The GMG uses a bolt to anchor the roll bar to a seat belt anchor thread (on a 90* angle).

part number is 996.580.982.01

for the 997 cage which is heavier you can try any dealer.

in both cases you need to weld 3mm thick plates with at least 120qcm of surface area so that it will be installed properly.

I like the way the DAS bar is set up and it also seems more substantial. No idea what it weighs but doesn't seem like an area where I'd want to scrimp.

Both FVD and Carnewal can get the factory Clubsport bars and the plates.(porsche dealers are no longer allowed to sell the clubsport bar due to legal reasons)
The odd used clubsport bar becomes available on rennlist for cheap, but alas i havent seen any in awhile.

i can put my GT2 seats all the way back with clubsport bar. Im 6.0ft and still have lots of room to go back if needed.

you will need to weld the factory plates to the floor and then bolt in the roll bar.
The new cars no longer offer factory plates like you previous RS.
I have seen clean jobs of this and have posted pictures on rennlist:

+1. I'm happy with my DAS bar. I'm just shy of 6'. Here's how much room I have left. Couple other things I like about the DAS bar. (1) I barely see it in the rear view mirror. I see the top of the bar but literally nothing else which is nice since the wing already blocks most of the view. (2) I like how I can still pack stuff in the rear with the way the bar is configured. Since I still don't trailer, I need every inch of space I can get. Oh, and it costs much less than the alternatives.

Here are a few pics before install.
I can dig up more with the plates welded in and the bar painted.
