OT: But I trust this forum to help explain the possibility of oil
consumption in a turbo engine; as most of your are more likely "hands in the engine" type of guys.
My month old Pan TT is already down a quart and a half of oil. ~ about 1500 miles. Is oil consumption higher with turbo engines? (it's my first turbo).
thanks

No idea why, but my Cayenne TT drinks a full quart every 1,000 miles, I asked another owner and his Cayenne TT does the same.
Worth checking in the Cayenne forum, as the CTT and PTT use the same engine.

The turbo engine is without a doubt more oil sensitive than the normally aspirated brethren and they tend to consume considerably more oil.

think of it as your Pano liking a Polish with the works every now and then...

In addition to the higher operating temps in the TT engine, your oil lines get routed through the turbines which is an additional location where oil gets burned up. It's normal esp. for a new engine and the consumption may taper off after break-in. My last TT drank oil regularly and didn't really stop until I hit the circa 6k mile mark.

My 996 Turbo needed a top up every 1,000 Miles and that was from brand new until I sold it with 8,000miles on the clock.

have had 2 German made TT engines running 20psi boost for nearly 10 years
they have both used oil throughout their lives at a constant non wavering rate
one was run harder than the other and used more
the more family driven one still used oil
also have extensive knowledge of many drivers who track TT cars - and every single one 'uses' oil
in fact, bringing a quart of oil for a DE event is standard equipment for every single Turbo car I know of

The water cooled turbos definitely use oil. I never used oil in any of my air cooled cars until they were ready for a rebuild, but the wasserboxers mit turbolader seem to crave oil.
