Default Anyone tried fitting 285's up front on 997 GT3.1?

Just wondering if anyone has run this size in the front and if so, did they rub much and what camber and how was it achieved?

Thanks,

Stu

The 265 MPSC fits fine. You'd need a custom offset wheel to shoehorn a 285 in there if at all possible. One trick is to get the tire and put it in the wheel well by hand and check for steering angle, clearing the strut to the fender liner and so on.

i run 265 on my 18" wheels.

285? dear lord why? I don't like the way the car handles over 245!

I autocross the car and we are trying to get some more predictable balance and behavior out of the car. Just trying different setups and this is one option. I have 255's on the front and 315's on the back as of now and it is good but there is more we can do or at least we hope. Keeping budgets in mind too!

HKE46Boy has the wide front fenders and BBS E88's offset to match for sale.

This is what you need to go wider than 265.

the guy you want to pm is RAD (NJ-GT)
he has autocrossed 996gt3 and 997gt3/rs extensively

it looks like you are shooting for 265/345 (with rear fender work)
but more importantly, for autocross, with stock springs, you are going to need a bigger rear sway

you will also likely benefit with a 4.0 or higher r&p to maximize hp in 2nd if this is allowed
and then, with big sticky tires, your LSD is going to go very fast

We test fitted a 285/30R18 on a 18x9 OZ rear wheel from my Cayman S to a 997 GT3 with PCCB. The tire sticks out 12mm beyond the fender on a lowered 997 GT3. However, rotating the strut tops gives 10mm of extra clearance, moving the struts inboard gains another 6mm (given this specific 997 GT3 position on the slots), and there are still additional tricks to get even more clearance, such as narrow springs (2.25" ID), extending the camber upper slots by 5mm, rolling the fenders, and stretching the fenders.

However, given our measurements, there is no need to apply the additional tricks. The plan is to run this car with 18x10 and 18x12 on 285/30R18 and 335/30R18 A6 tires. The 345x18 and 345x19 (the one I use in the Scuderia) are too tall, and bad for gearing. The 285/335 lower the center of gravity without changing the suspension geometry, they reduced unsprung weight, and the contact patch ratio front/rear is ideal for the 997 GT3 weight distribution.

I already ran 10" wheels with 285 in the 996 GT3, a car with less fender well space than the 997 GT3 both front and rear.

We will post pictures when all the work is done.

Rad,

Thanks. I posted on the off chance anyone else was playing with the setup other than you. Keep me informed and photos would be great. Still mulling the data over you sent the other day.
