Simple, for the same $ I would rather spend it on a 911 GT3...Porsche understands this. If a cayman GT3 is what you desire, there are a handful of resourceful shops & tuners who could make the project happen for you, e.g...

There's not exactly a GT3 motor in there, but i'm sure you've seen this build documented significantly online...

the MSRP would be high and probably price itself out of the market.

porsche probably feels that nobody would pay more to drive a caymen over a 911

Seems to me that loyalty and repeat purchases among 911 owners is very high, possibly the highest in the car business. I'm sure Porsche understands that pulling the plug on the 911 or creating products that cannibalizes sales of the 911 would put the company in jeopardy. As much as some don't understand this, people want the classic turtle shape, the engine in the wrong place and power from a six that competes with eights, not to mention everything else that makes these cars so special.

I'd personally love a lightweight R8 with RWD and loud exhaust...but until then the GT3RS is the next best thing. I'd also like to remind everyone that the dead horse is still dead. for now.

I wasn't talking about pulling the plug on the 911 - far from it! - but merely adding a Cayman version to the GT family. 'Cayman GT' would be an appropriate name, with a detuned Mezger GT3 engine.

i think it's a german logic thing.
porsche will sell whatever they want.
stuff whatever motor in cayman or even panemear, and win leman 24 hours 2-3x in a row and win ALMS, then the 24 hr ring... no matter how fugly the thing is, WE WILL BE LINING UP TO BUY IT.
