Default Next gen gt3?

Greetings from Istanbul,Turkey everyone...
I have been reading the forum for a month now...What a great forum!

Lately I have been thinking of buying a 997.2 gt3.But my brother is trying me keep out of this decision due to new generation 998 porsche's coming out....
Well to buy a gt3 in Turkey you have to multiply price with 2.2 due to customs&uber taxing which makes it 264.000 us dolars here in Istanbul.....
Crazy huh

So would it be a smart move to buy the mk2 gt3 now? or wait for the next gen?

Thanks in Advance,
Demir Uyar

the next gen will be a few years out, it takes about 12-18 months after the regular 911 model is released until the GT3 is announced/released (after the turbo) ... so if the 998 is release as a
MY'12 car sometime mid-next year the GT3 would not appear until an MY'13/14 car, if that!

A lot depends also on what happens with the engine lines ...

So it all depends, do you want to wait 3-4 years or do you want one now ...

another route, go get an '07/'08 GT3/RS ... it's already taken the depreciation hit...

have fun

Welcome Demir,

As indicated by Larry, typically you see an 18 month production cycle for the GT3 every 3-4 years. Thus the next generation car is probably still 2-3 years away.

The likely positives of waiting- faster, more power and latest technology...

The likely negatives- may no longer use the race proven Metzger GT1 engine, long wait, even more expensive!

If you can afford to do it, may as well do it now and save the wait. Either way, it is a car, either model is going to depreciate heaps anyway... especially if the next generation doesn't receive a race proven motor...

I think the demise of the metzger engine for the GT3 is premature ...

it's my personal belief that until we see a cup/RSR car running competitively we will still have the metzger engine in the GT3's ...

Note that the cup/rsr cars are now running a 4.0L(3.9L) metzger engine ...
if past experience is anything to go by, the next GT3 will be a 4.0 (3.9)
car ...

my $0.02 ...

Either way ... it's a long way off!

Agreed 100% Larry, my comments don't relate to any suggestions that it has reached the end of its development cycle... far from...

They relate to the fact that Porsche will be looking for another car to make $20k extra profit on and with the turbo now having been raped, the GT3 may be next... The Metzger may survive in the RS for the moment for homologising purposes...

Not sure about this, but I have heard that 3.8L is the max. displacement for street use GT1 block.

Very profound... you've got to draw a line somewhere and pull the trig... well, you know.
