Default Akrapovic Slip On Initial sound testing shows sound decrease

We just installed the Akrapovic Titanium Slip On Muffler on our 2010 GT3 RS and initial observation was that it was noticeably quieter than stock.. This is great news for those looking to quiet down their GT3 and GT3 RS.

pictures and db numbers to follow

That would be music to my ears. If I could still hear music after driving the RS a round trip to Thunderhill. Industrial deafness, anyone?

Funny how things go and come around. For years we went aftermarket to increase the engine sound and now ...!

Funny and sad. I'm happy to have just as much noise out the back of the car as need be for power and enjoyment. Inside race cars these days, the objective is to reduce stress on the driver and keep them in good condition for a full enduro. I don't think anyone short of an ace fighter pilot can operate at peak performance under stress.

If any given pipe can make full stock power and pass Laguna's oppressive noise limit (91 dB?) then I'm interested. At present, it looks like we all have to drive Laguna with either "shift n lift" or we have to use Mike's vacuum trick (which suits me fine ... just flip the switch as part of the down-shift into turn 5 ... flip it back as you downshift for 6 ... : )

As for the Akro' pipes, my only reservation is Porsche and their warranty nonsense. If the vendor can get something in writing from Porsche that the given aftermarket product is approved, I'll do it. If it means paying for RMS replacement on my own dime to fix a problem that Porsche knows full well is their failure, that's not so much fun.

What was its weight compared to the stock system?

Other owners have suggested 60lbs. I think the full system is $10K +/-, so that's not cheap weight savings, but if you consider the pendulum leverage, you might multiply that weight by a factor of 5 (?) and there's no ignoring the influence of at least 200 or maybe 300 lbs of lateral force on the rear tires. If it takes away the "Boxster" sound and gives you a legit flat six 911 sound ... and you rationalize the up-front capital cost by saying you'd surely get 50-70% resale value (the only thing that wears out is the cats and the GT3 and RS will be mostly such low mileage cars, it's irrelevant) then you could convince yourself it's not such a big hit. It would all be about the sound for me -- after all, hands up anyone here whose lap times are worth anything more than bragging rights? : )

The sport cup system, which deletes the side mufflers, saves 46lbs or 21 kilos.

John: Noticeably quieter than what? The Evolution Race system; the stock system with Sport valves open; stock system with Sport valves closed?

How about some videos and db measurements for the standard Evolution system?

Thanks.

We installed the slip on muffler to test and see if it will lower the db level (which it did) and pass at some of our tracks. We will have the car up at the track this weekend (Tremblant) and will have track side sound testing done.

I will also be doing some pre-track testing today with my db meter.

John

Quieter than the stock muffler and everything else left stock.

You are thinking about the slip on which deletes the side mufflers.

Sorry but, you are the one that is incorrect:

Slip-on is the one that just replaces the center muffler only. Key word is "slip-on". Save 4.3 lbs:

The Sport Cup system, replaces the center muffler, deletes the side mufflers(see the connecting pipes) and saves the 46 lbs... :

My apologies yes I was incorrect, maybe I am beginning to suffer from the dreaded race gas syndrome. :-)
