Since we always talk about the Ring time as a benchmark, figured that some of you might be interested:

I wish we could see the tach. I wonder what the redline is on that thing.

It makes 700hps at 9,000rpm, so the redline is up there, I'm sure.. !!

Wow that thing is quick...watch how quickly the speedometer moves up when he's on the throttle! V12 also sounds great. 300kph on the back striaght and under 7 min is ridiculous too, and to me it looks like there might be a couple extra secs to be had.

ok, ok.... so this thing is a full cage track toy only right?! if so, what is the ring time for a 2010 CUP car which is track car only too??

Now, a Viper ACR X would be a comparable contender. Same for the Mustang Boss 302R and Ferrari 430 challenge. Both full caged factory built turn key racers.

or perhaps the RSR is more in the league of the 599XX.

Im really looking forward to seeing Walter's lap time in the 24 hour built street RS....... that is more my budget

Quote at the end "fastest ever production-based sports car on the legendary Nordschleife" -- key words for Ferrari's marketing: 'production-based'.

A more appropriate comparison for the GT3 RS would be a 458 or 599GTO, neither of which I've seen times posted for.

i love porsches, but it is really neat to see a front engine v12 ferrari still in top ranks on a track like that of the old ferrari 250 GTO of the 60's.

kudos!

Great car, but ridiculous to imply it is the fastest production based car to run the ring. If it hasn't happened already, McLaren should just dust off one of their lemans winning race cars (based on the production F1), unrestrict the engine and take it to the Ring.

Exactly, we should all ignore the use of superlatives when it comes to car manufacturers talking about their products on some track or on the street!

That 599XX cost over 1.5 million US?

Be mity fine if some privateer or factory backed 599xxx decides to run in some
major races that would be awesome. Mike

The 599XX is equipped with Michelin Slicks.

The key here is the use of the Michelin slicks, these tires are 2-3 secs faster (per minute) than race spec Michelin sport Cups, and even faster than the OEM MPSC in the GT3/GT2.

On race spec MPSC this same 599XX would lap between 7:12 and 7:19.

The 2010 GT3 Cup already completed the VLN track (nurburgring + F1 track) in 8:38. Per Chris Harris, a VLN lap is typically 1:40 to 1:50 longer than a full Nurburgring lap, so the 2010 GT3 Cup (stock) is capable of a 6:48 to 6:58. Using the Nurburgring lap time from the VLN Gallardo from Raeder Racing (6:44) and the gap between this Gallardo and the 2010 GT3 Cup at the VLN track (8:32 vs 8:38), the 2010 GT3 Cup should run the Nurburgring at 6:50.

theory aside- love the noise this car makes. from the looks of it the temp outside is well below 60*F so it's not like grip was optimal by any means. Surely this summer when it warms up a bit these guys will be able to drop the time even further...

in regards to the cup car comments etc.- the only reason a cup car would be faster than a 599xx is because of a gross weight disadvantage. 265 more ponies is a TON to make up and the lack of top end speed on a cup car compared to this ferrari is pretty high.
