has anyone used 18's for gt3 and like it more than the 19's
I am planning to buy techart 18's for my car. The road where I live are asphalted and rough in most areas. Thinking of 18's as this will lessen the jitters and improve performance? I have seen several posts indicating that the 18's are ideal for the gt3's and 19's also. Which tires are really better interms of handling , feel and comfort.
To those who have used 18's on their gtr3 997 please give me your feedback.
thanks!

I can safely say that most of the GT3's that run on the track use 18's. I cannot provide you with an opinion on the 19's since I use them only for the street. However, I can tell you that in track and road conditions the 18's perform magnificently.
Izzone, I run with 9 in the front and 12 in the rear.

My impression is that running the 18" wheels on the track provides more true R-compound tire options as well as the ability to run 245 or 255 width front tires. The wider front tire is probably the biggest factor in reducing understeer on 997.1 cars. I doubt many folks run slicks on their 18's since that would require significantly higher spring rates to take full advantage of their grip, and seriously degrade streetability.
I have only been on the track in my 997.2 GT3 with the stock rims and N1 MPSC tires, so I don't know how important running 18's will be yet. I would say that this car has less inherent understeer with the new front suspension geometry (I also have reduced the ride height and run a little more negative camber front and rear).
My guess is that most of us would see very little difference in lap times running either 18 or 19 wheels with appropriate tires.

Very easy for a shop to lower.Took mine to 110mm height- Euro spec: You do not want to just drop the height without an alignment. -2 front and -2.5 rear. It works well for street.track and some autocross. It does wear the inside edge on the rears with a lot of street driving.

That's what I am running, -2 front, -2.5 in rear.
In response to Got2go, you can run a full slick and you will be immensely surprised by how much extra grip you have. Obviously, you will not keep these types of tires on for road driving.

On my car front lowered 7mm, rear 8mm from stock ride height. -2 degrees front and rear (apparently the 997.2 likes to see same camber front and rear). I also installed adjustable rear dogbones and toe steer link. 0 toe in front, about 14 minutes of static toe in on each side in the rear if I remember correctly. These specs were recommendations from Porsche Motorsports per GMG who did my suspension set up.

The cutting edge in street tire performance seems to have moved on to 19s, with the best 18s available being slightly slower in the same brand. I drew this conclusion after discussing the matter with a principal at an OEM tasked with testing and specifying tires- the best street 19s (max performance summer class, not extreme performance or R compound) are now noticeably quicker in 19s rather than 18. I suspect this is basically down to the newest top models being specified with 19s (or 20s, ie the Ferrari 458) rather than 18s, and thus that's where the money is.
Having research this recently I concluded that 19s in an RE050AN1 or PZero N2 are currently faster and better handling than 18" options in the max performance class, though 18s should still ride better. If you're willing to switch to the extreme performance or R class (RE-11, Corsa, etc) it's not clear to me if the 18s are still faster or not...
I ended up going with 18s in front and 19s in the rear, but that's not on a gt3.
