I have a Fabspeed exhaust on my Carrera and hence the level of noise from the exhaust was not that surprising. What was surprising was how good it sounds when you rev it up. It has a very powerful and smooth tone. I was originally planning to go with a GMG or Sharkwerks center and now planning to leave it stock. BTW, if you want it more muted just leave it out of sport mode and keep your right foot out of it.

Still have our E36 M3 sedan - we need something for those (now rare) occasions when we need to carry more than 2.

I had E36 and E46 M3s but from there first went to a 996 before the GT3. Each was a step or two forward, though the E36 had a certain sweetness which I feel that BMW has lost.

A couple more newbie impressions to close out my thoughts:

The rear wing is H U G E !!! Not much need for that auto-dimming rear view mirror. The wing blocks out EVERYTHING! And for some strange reason, the rear view mirror vibrates a lot. The side mirrors are fine.

And the seats are a bit pinchy in the shoulder area. I love the snug feel, but after an hour or so on the long drive up the coast, I found myself squiriming around a lot. And I'm pretty average size. I guess Americans are too fat! LOL

When all these irritations become too much to handle, drop me a pm.

I'm sure you'd be happier trading UP to a Carrera S. Nice seats, good stereo, functional mirrors, quiet interior, everything you're looking for in a car. You'll love it!

Are you kidding me? I LOVE this car! I can't wait till she is past the break-in period. Who knows, by then I may not even care about upgrading the stereo!
