is it really better to have the flat tops vs. cradle top? I just fear for slippage when using the flat tops

depends on what car you have.
the jack pads on 996 997 are best used with AC's flat top.
i tried both type and there is no question which is better.

so you're placing the jack stands on the jacking points on the rs? Aren't we supposed to rest the jacks on the axle?

The "jack-stand under axle" support pertains only to fixed axle (aka "live beam") suspension ... not to any Porsche or any car with independent suspension.

The jack stands must be as low as possible and as wide and squarely far apart as possible using chassis points designed to hold the full weight of the car with careful attention to the center of gravity especially when removing wheels or the engine, transmission, etc.

^^^The flat tops are fantastic and the car sits rock solid on them... Definitely the way to go...

Does anyone have a picture of the engine case jacking point on the 996 gt3? Would hate to stuff it up.
