Default TPMS Question

For aftermarket wheels, do I need to purchase Porsche proprietary sensors to preserve pressure monitorring, or is this a generic technology? If not Porsche specific, where's a good place to purchase the sensors?

I believe that right now it is Porsche specific (talked to some aftermarket guys at SEMA, they may have something eventually). I get all of mine at Tire Rack (they are BERU sensors, specific models for P cars). You can also transfer sensors from old wheel set to new, or put a piece of tape over the warning light and ignore it...

I think the last set I got was about $240 for a set of 4. To be more clear, the sensors are made by BERU, but they are the only ones coded to talk to the Porsche TPMS system. You can get them from Tire Rack, even though they do not show up on their website - just call and ask for them. BERU has sensors for Audi, MB, BMW also, so they need to know you are putting them on a Porsche. They are installed like this: INSTALL . The sensor needs to be activated. Your mounting shop can do it (typically for about $10 per wheel), or you can do it yourself with one of these: TPMS TRIGGER.

I use them on my BBS E88 wheels.
