GT3 Cup wing conversion?
Has anyone tried the GT3 Cup car rear wing conversion on their street GT3/RS? I can't help drooling over these airfoil when I saw a bunch of these Cup cars at Laguna for the recent ALMS race. I have the Cup front splitter and I think a rear Cup wing should help provide more down force. Is it well engineer to negate large amount of drag??
I foresee couple challenges as follow:
1. Need a new deck lid
2. The new deck lid has a central air collection duct vs right side air collection on the street GT3/RS
3. Retrofit the lid closing mechanism so it works with either the Cup car's two quick release or the central lock mechanism found on street GT3/RS
4. Color scheme for the rear wing and metal upright support
Here are some 997 GT3 Cup car Wings at Laguna's ALMS race
It's so large you can use it as a coat hanger lol
There was a 2010 GT3 Cup car at Laguna and it was just gorgeous!!! The rear wing is a piece of art and it has one large central air scoop vs the two smaller one found on the older sibling. I love the cut out on the metal support much better than the sold sheet. I think it will be a stretch to fit one of these airfoil on my RS ...

Yah I wouldn't doubt it. Check these from the site though. This is what I would do

It's kinda overkill if u drive your car in the street. Looks great the way it is now IMO. 10-15k sounds about rt- u can use that money for other things like suspension goodies/brake upgrades. Mike

Hi mikymu,
I was not sure on upgrade to Mk1 RS wing,
My ride 997 GT3, but after your bad bad influence this post....
I am amaze with your pic on this awesome Cup wing.
Do you think will match 997 mk1 body, GT3 Cup wing conversion?
Thanks for this beauty shot.

Problem with after market stuff is fit and finish. I seen some pretty awful after market body parts and I have no experience with Mashaw
Here is what BR racing did on their 2010 GT3
They use the top side of a 997.1 Cup deck lid mated to the inside portion of the 997.2 GT3 deck lid and added the 997.1 Cup wing
Cup wing >>> RS wing IMHO and it's possible as above

with the new RS, i think you just need taller upright and wider blade. then you got the cup wing...
though you will then have to buy the car to attach the wing to.

im in the process of doing this now.
you will need the OE CUP wing and uprights.
you will also need a trunk lid that will work with the wing.
(street air box and cup air box are totally different)
a street car requires the fan assembly and the use of latch etc.
the cup trunk lid will not work for you. no latch, no mount for fans, etc.
you will want upwards of $7000.00 to do it right.
unless you are doing some serious fast driving on long straights on race tracks it really is a $$ move.
but it looks great on the track

Frankly I don't see ne benefit when doing such a mod unless u surpass the limits of the car. If not why bother. I rahter spend that money on professional instructors and test the car as is. So u got a cup wing it should make u faster but it's abit disconcerting when a great driver in a 6gt3 flies by you as u were on reverse. Just my opinion. Mike
