Default another question ... :(

im paranoid ...

so at the dealer i asked them to top the oil as it was on the "low mark" of the digital display ... im sure he added just 500ml ... did not look like a lot thrown in ... i drive out of the place, and on a level surface i check the reading and to my surprise it showed full, i thought it should have went to the halfway mark and not full ... but was not bothered by it at all ...

when i reached home 40km away i checked again and to my surprise it showed overfilled !? ...

now ... what i have observed is when the car just reaches the point where the oil can be checked it shows full ... if the oil gets any hotter it shows overfilled ...

should i be concerned ?

yes on a level road ... if i give the car a quick rev to 2500RPM and check the level it shows "full" .... then immediately after i check the level again and it shows "overfilled" ... rev it again, it shows full again ... and yes if the oil temperature has not reached its optimal mark it shows "full" ... once it reaches the optimal mark (in fact it goes a little over, really hot day today) then it shows overfilled ...

my oil pressure seems fine, so there is pressure in the motor and it does go all the way to the top when i am accelerating hard, i would assume an overfilled motor will not build the required oil pressures ...

so maybe im just on the threshold where the sensor picks up its overfilled or full

That is the main reason I dislike the computer measurement, you get different readings.

I note that people constantly overfill. You probably did not need oil or if you did they did overfill it.

My '07 was a disaster measuring oil.
Would show down, then shut off and restart, it would read full.
The sensor was replaced, the same behavior remained.

No longer my problem...car gone

The oil level indicator seems to be very sensitive to how level the car is. Therefore I only check the oil in one place (in my garage). I do get pretty consistent readings there, as long as the car is fully warmed up (typically after driving for a while).

My car has been amazingly stable and consistent at the full level mark for 4500 miles now. I'm very pleased.

I think you probably shoud not have filled it up at all. I had the same concern when I got mine, but I was not measuring the oil properly: you are supposed to do it with a warmed up engine, turn it off, let it sit for one minute, then turn it back on and measure the oil. This allows the oil to settle down for measurement, I was told. You will see a warning if your oil level starts getting too low, anyway, so don't worry. And the excess oil will just burn.

Was the car warm or cold? I always check mine when it is dead cold. If I check it a few minutes after I drive it, it always shows lower. I've noticed it will fluxuate a couple bars.

^^ how do you check your oil when its cold ... the electronic system does not allow this at all .... it waits for the engine to be at optimal temperature before it gives a reading ....

with less oil in the car now the oil pressure is higher ... with the car at optimal temperature (oil and engine temps) my oil level is at the halfway mark and im happy leaving it here ...

Same experience I've had. It seems to vary a lot, from underfilled to overfilled with the same amount of oil.

I know it's a dry-sump engine, but I prefer the way it's measured on our Boxsters (or a dipstick - which isn't accurate on the Boxsters). The digital gauges (measured before starting) have been spot on for a total of 235,000 miles.

when i recently tried to check the engine oil level, it reads" the car must be level" ...

I tried several times, still got the same results...

before I bring the car into the dealer, what could be the problmes there?

Just need your advice
