though when coolant expands, the clip comes up vertical. my does that.
however, it never comes down again by itself...
dealer tells me it's normal.

I agree with Mooty, the second photo is the correct position.

Good to know. I went out to the garage to look at my new GT3 and saw that the piece was down. My car, however, has 3 miles on it and is stored for the winter.

The car came in last week. It snowed and the roads were salted very heavily, so no drive for me. It was promplty detailed, serviced then put on a covered trailor and brought to my garage. I probably won't drive it until April or as soon as the freaking salt is off the road. . Oh, and I think it has 4 miles.

Sorry. Another reason why I love living here in northern California!! You could have just had the covered trailor keep driving west until you found sun and dry roards!!

ok so vertical up is normal ? a little confused now ... someone explain to me what this clip does in either position?.... read somewhere its a purge clip ... what is it purging ?

If it is coolant that its purging then is it possible to lose coolant through this if it is in the wrong position? ...

purging coolant.
i dont think you will lose enough coolant to worry about it. my is vertical. if i push it down, track it, then it will pop up again.

logic tells me during spirited driving it would lift up to purge the extra pressure built up and should drop back down when the pressure normalises .... BUT the design is such that in the up position i cant see how it would drop back down ... So in the end what is the point about having such a design and why not design it to be fixed in the up position. Still does not make sense to me

^ THAT is exactly what i asked the service dpt of my dealer and they cannot answer. my NEVER comes down again. and if you flip it with your fingers, you will see that quite a bit of force is needed to get it back down.....
