New Here, Laguna Seca Advice
I've been following the forum for a few months and appreciate all the information and insight. I really didn't think I would end up with a Porsche, my first car was a 76 Vette. My wife traded her BMW 645 for a 997.2 S Cab PDK and I was amazed at the power and response. Not the same neutral balance of my Elise, but after 3 years with the sport pack and lack of sound insulation I think I'm ready for something a little more comfortable. A GT3 seems like the Porsche equivalent to an Elise.
My plan was Euro delivery, but my allocation is November 2009, presumably en route. I am going to pick it up in Northern California and drive PCH (Hwy 1) to begin break in; final destination is Honolulu where we no longer have a track so I need to let it run free at least once. I have track days lined up February 15 and 22 at Laguna Seca (anyone planning to be there?). Does anyone have recommendations for good drives in the area. I guess I won't be able to break the car in by the book since I take delivery 2 days before the first track day--but that's what this car was meant for.
Thanks

Sounds like a fun pick up. Lots of good roads here in N. CA.
If you need help I can help you get the break in miles put on the car.
What group(s) is doing the track days? I might be up for that.
Laguna advice? When you enter the top of the corkscrew the track will not be visible, it drops off to steep to see it beyond your hood. Point your car at the large oak tree and gas it !!!
Have fun!

Where are you picking up the car?
Near San Francisco, try Skyline Blvd. (Hwy 35) from the intersection of
Hwy 92 and 35, head south till you reach Hwy 9.
Take Hwy 9 towards Santa Cruz.
From there, Hwy 1 to Monterey, then to L.S.
Near Laguna Seca, take Laureles Grade, to Carmel Valley Road,
then Cachague Road, and loop back on E. Carmel Valley Road
Many more roads in the Bay Area if you provide more detail on location and time you have.

I am picking up the car from Fletcher Jones Fremont (buying it from Fletcher Honolulu), probably Saturday the 13th. Drive it some, then Laguna Seca with Hooked on Driving the 15th and fly home to return the following weekend to drive and then Trackmasters has a track day Monday the 22nd.
I appreciate the road suggestions. I left California 20 years ago and for winter I could only think of PCH for old times sake.

Well, Hwy 9 still works. Your call if you want to cross the bridge and pick up 35.
I think it is worth it.
If you can work Hwy 25 into your days, it is a great road, but you are heading a little too far south. But if you have nothing to do but drive on Sunday, take 101 to Hollister, down to Hwy 198, then back up on Hwy 101.
Do not speed near King City.
Exit near Greenfield, pick up G16, then Cachague Road, to Carmel Valley Rd,
Laureles Grade, etc.
You can combine the 2 via Hwy 129 & 156
