by the time PDK makes it (if it does) to the GT3 the delta in Ring times will be compelling. The 3 peddle manual will be slower. If I wanted to go slower but feel like I am going faster I would still have that 93 RSA.

After seeing Jim's car and knowing what you can do with a PDK, I would definitely go with PDK.

I consider myself more of a purist and judge things more on what is being used on the race circuit. I want to have my car based on what is the best for racing (within reason). Regarding the PDK, until I see it being used in the Cup cars I wouldn't consider it. Are the new Cups or RSRs equipped with PDK? Nope.

If I can finally free my left foot so it can modulate one pedal only that would definately be a plus...PDK is for me.

they will go through a season or two of Super Cup before they come to street cars. By the way the cup cars have sequential transmissions

The Cups and RSRs have sequentials (no rowing) that pros bang typically w/o a clutch...just like a PDK.

That's correct. I just wonder if PDK is supposed to be so great why aren't the cups switched over to it? The only non-clutch I would consider is the Ferromatic.

I recently learned that the cups require the drivers to use the clutch on downshifts.

Not a GT3 but the beginning. It is still 2-4 years away

Porsche decided to do a little 'Ring running in three different 2009-spec 911 models and quietly let the results slip during a press event. A 2009 911S fitted with Porsche's new twin clutch system (PDK: Porsche Doppelkupplung), Porsche Active Stability Management and "sport tires" took the top place, scoring a 7:50. The new PDK shifts a whopping 60-percent faster than the old Tiptronic S.

The first place getter was followed by what is assumed to be a 2009 911S with a manual transmission some eight seconds back, and then a 2008 911 S another four seconds back, at 8:02. There's no word on who was driving the cars, or what exactly counts as a "sport tire."

PDK is not auto.
it's manual sequential, like cup car like F1 etc.

Those results would not suprise me in the least.
PDK in Sport Plus is great for track work, and if you have an aftermarket exhaust, you will be fully in love with hearing all the throttle management that is going on to smooth the power transfer (reduce chassis dynamics upsetting driveline impulses) during the shifts.

Some of you already saw my mucking-about on the track vid from my FVD exhaust post, but it captures some amazing transmission work by the electronics, as the exhaust is loud and you can hear what the PDK is doing:

:23 throttle blip downshift
:42 mid corner throttle blip downshift
1:43 mid corner blipped downshift

2:24-27 Three quick successive blipped downshifts, in 3 seconds under very hard braking.

The upshifts and powerband management speak for themselves. I am NOT shifting manually AT ALL in that video. Just PDK in Sport Plus setting.

That was my first testing of my new Race-Keeper video/data system therefore I had some glitches with the tach matching exactly the video. My fault and I have fixed it now.

Be sure to use the HQ (High-Quality) button and TURN IT UP!

Thumbs down Negative on PDK

If it doesn't have a shifter and a clutch pedal, count me out. Manual race prepared transmissions do not require use of clutch on upshifts ~ only on launch and downshifts ~ pattern or sequential shifter. Been shifting for over 45 years...I'll continue manual shifting ~ with a foot operated clutch ~ until someone rolls me away on a gurney...

It may not be an auto in the conventional use of the word as in having a Torque converter, but its auto in the sense that the computer is shiffing for you, when in auto mode. Accepting you can manually shift when you want and that it is sequential in nature, it its noting like the sequential boxes found in cup cars or F1 cars in any way...particalulry with dual mass flywheels and dual clutches.

For me the primary source of enjoyment of going to the track is nailing this all on my own, manually, without any computer aides....buttons or paddle shifters just don't cut it.

^ i see your point.
i will always have some cars which requires 3 pedals and manually shifting, and some with things like PDK.
