Default Should I buy 07 RS...with engine repair?

I have a lead on a really nice 07 RS at an attractive price. BUT, it did have some kind of engine trouble in the first 8-10k mi, and porsche rebuilt the motor. Assuming the motor is fine now, and warranted, what's it worth? Is the engine work a deal breaker? Other than that the car is perfect.

what number is it on the registry?

do you have a copy of the service record to see exactly what was performed?

Some 2007 GT3's had bad crank case tolerences thus replacement was warranted by the dealer along with rebuild.

So in a sence, it could be better to have the car with the repair already performed then buying the low mile never used car only to find out it is also required when the warranty has run out....

Im willing to bet there are some GT3's out there that dont know they have a potential problem yet....

Most GT3's are trouble free, but to know which car will have no trouble?

far fetched but, one is almost better off buying the car with higher miles and all the bugs worked out by the dealer under warranty.

If it was properly repaired and no trouble since, then you might be better off than buying a GT3 with no warranty service history....

Thanks, I've known this car since 07 and will have access to all the paperwork.

You think if it gets a clear bill of health from Porsche, it may be an advantage, not disadvantage.
Price wise no negative?

As tsracing1 pointed out, it depends on the nature of the work. "some kind of engine trouble" is too vague to know.

when i bought my RS used, it was by luck at the dealer getting fully serviced when they noticed a problem with crankcase. (leaking oil)

the dealer had a regional rep inspect it and order replacment crankcase and rebuild. full warranty.

To me, this was really good news and a bonus as it avoided me any future hassle and to be honest, if i had bought another RS instead, it could have very well have had the same problem without knowing about it which would really suck to discover in time.....especially if warranty was up!

So i feel very blessed to have the worst already behind me with nothing but trouble free smooth sailing ahead. 6000 miles thus far and no RMS, FMS or crank case leaks. sweettttt.

this car you speak of may very well also have the worst behind it, whereas some other GT3's are yet to discover what is in store for them.... Not saying all will have the same problem, but the ones that are already warranty fixxed are good buy in my books!

im happy my RS now has a clean bill of health after recieving much needed major warranty work

So... a Porsche dealer removed the engine and sent it back to Zuffenhausen for the rebuild, correct?

No, not sent to G. Done here. I know there is "a guy" who inspects and handles this for porsche on the high end cars, RSs CGTs GT2s etc. He's based in LA. Not sure yet who did the rebuild.

But I ask again. Is it not going to effect the "street price" ?

Sorry, not true! (on this point I am 100% confident).

The above doesn't mean you shouldn't consider the rebuild. I would say if you are going to drive it a lot...go ahead. The usage combined with the warranty from the rebuild will ensure that problems, if any, will show up and be corrected.

However, If you are not going to use the car a lot, then low miles will not highlight potential problems, and by the time they surface the warranty will have expired.

Since it is a rebuild, it is something one should declare as it is in the service records. thus, having to "declare " anything nowadays does have an effect on resale.

so, most buyers would typically look for a car with no bad history.

Since the RS in question wasnt blown or over rev'd, and was rebuilt due to manufacture defect, it is not really "bad" history.

Some would rather have the car that was warranty repaired properly to eliminate any questionabilty vs. a car that has never seen any warranty work what so ever.

in this case, the rebuild wasnt to repair abuse which is good, however once the factory seal is broken on a motor it does affect value... so yes,

expect a discount over a non rebuilt car.....

+1 on discount over non rebuilt car. There are many RS on the market now with new RS coming soon. Supply greatly outweighs the demand currently.
