Interesting topic. i currently still own an 08 acr viper. I also own a 2009 gt2. for comparison, the track i run is flat and heavy on brakes. the gt2 laps at least 1 second quicker. unfortunately i haven't had both cars out at a big fast track like mosport. partly because i'm a beginner at mosport and scared of hitting the walls. but more importantly, reliability. the acr spun a bearing after a few lapping days - diagnosed as oil starvation. the gt2 has 37 track days on it this year and is/has been perfectly reliable. I guess thats the difference, the acr drives great but akin to other competitors to porsche, the car isnt built to handle constant punishment on a race track. I've owned several marques and tracked them all, the only brand i've had that has not been towed from the track has been the Porsche(s).

A agree with Moot, most GT3 RS drivers dont care what the viper does. Even if its 5 minutes faster to use Moots example I still could not justify that I would have a "DODGE" in the garage. Just like a Dodge OMNI. I would have a hard time with that. I would love and DO love the fact that the car in the garage has all kinds of racing heritage in it. Including the 1986 LeMans winning tranny in the car.
I COULD have a viper as another car in the garage because I have alot of respect for that car. I have driven some examples and its OK just very trucklike to me as opposed to super car feeling.

I could see them producing an RS model 928 or even a Cup car. I for one would be in line for a set of keys. Being 6'5" it is very difficult for he to even work the clutch pedal in the latest .2 GT3! That is why I prefer the PDK since I don't have to constantly strike my left shin on the dashboard. Have been looking into having a custom dash made just for this reason.
We are the same height and I fit in my 6gt3 just fine without the lowering kit from BK with my helmet on

What's your inseam? 45"?

I have yet to have the joy of driving a Manual 997. Its just my left leg seems awfully close to the dash board and I don't know if it would be constantly striking it, the dashboard that is! Inseam is 33.5".

I guess a lot of it has to do is I'm not use to driving in cars with such progressively low --laying nearly flat like in F1 almost-- seating.

Ok then how much trouble do you run into when using the clutch? I sat in a new black on black GT3 on Thursday and found I might have issues with the clutch. Amazingly enough I put the driver's seat all the way back and it was too much, which is a rarity with most modern cars; as a matter of fact it is the first thing I usually do, adjust the seat all the way back.

Kind of have it in the back of my head to go to sharky and have that 3.9 conversion performed. Don't know if that will be before or after I finally get my 997.2 TT?
Sorry for the late response - I'm on vacation right now. I don't have a problem at all with the clutch. My height is pretty evenly balanced between legs and torso which I think helps. My inseam is about 37". I'm a little tight headroom wise with a helmet and could use a little more room for my legs but it's really not bad.

"Evo magazine is reporting the newly facelifted 2010 Porsche 911 GT3 RS has unofficially lapped Nurburgring Nordschleife in 7min 33sec. That's still significantly slower than the current leaders, which include the Corvette ZR1 (7m26.4s), Gumpert Apollo (7m11.57s), Radical SR8LM (6m48s) and the highly disputed Nissan GT-R (7m27.56s), however, compared to the regular 911 GT3 it is a full seven seconds quicker."

.. I read somewhere that Porsche said there was "light traffic" during the new RS run and that they could have improved upon their time a bit.

In August 2005 Patrick Simon did a 7:15,63 on a Porsche 911 GT2 modded by EDO-Competition - in a street legal car on Pirellis - also street legal.

but then Patrick is a ring-pro finishing in top positions on the ring VLN and 24h races...and he knows how to drift

Well pity that ain't prepped available straight from the factory. That is what we really need; a factory option.

some cars are more prepped to go fast straight from factory, some are not. Don't think it's really biggie if gt3rs is few secs slower around ring than ACR Viper. It's the fun spend it cabin that is more important than some seconds. If you want your car to be faster, then soup it up. Not too difficult. I've understood that gt3rs has been "designed" to be more streetable than ACR viper - is it no wonder that it's slower around track?

actually when there has been different drivers and different teams testing the cars, in different weather, they're not 100% comparable. I highly doubt if GT-R is really that fast like Nissan guys claim, for example. But, it's quite much speculation, without valid and fair testing conditions.

If they would race the cars on track at the same time, and all would be driven with top noch drivers, then comparison would be more realistic.

+1 Could not agree more, I go from daily driver to the track with nothing more than removing seat cushions, floor mat and put R compound tires on. The ACR could be driven every day, but would not be as fast on track in street setup. The RS is more expensive, but like someone said, it just feels and smells nicer.. I can live with pointing some Vipers by in the weekend.

And one important point here is that there's nothing more fun than beating a car on a track which should be faster on paper. At this point there's no question which driver is better. ,)
