Nat.Geo channel-Porsche factory documentary
Last friday. Great to watch. Many GT3 '10 (Riviera blue) segments on track and back roads. For those who saw, where they assembling GT3 engines or 9A1? It seems that they showed both, but not specific. Also, it seems that all engines are "electrically run" on dyno. I imagine with engine oil in it, just spun by electric engine attached to it. What a factory!

I saw it and DVR'd it as well. Very Well done. Those automated Delivery carts are very cool.
I am pritty sure they were not showing the GT3 engine being built. THis is beacuse It looked like there was a Oil Pan on the bottom of the engine they were building and the GT3 is dry sump and the Oil pan is not on the bottom. The engine they showed had a flat bottom and the Bottom of the GT3 engine is rounded, showing the crank case cylender heads.

We picked up my wife's Boxster S at the factory in 2000, and they had humans putting the windshield in. After watching that, I can see why they'd want a robot for the job.

It looks like the process for building the new engine has completely changed from the way the previous engine was built.
The show is also on you tube, broken up into 5 parts.

Finally watched it last night. Interesting comparison to the Ferrari one (also very good), especially after having been to both factories.
A lot of changes in the 9 years since we were at there. We never got to see the first part where the chassis were built up and painted - very cool.
I like the robot that opens the door and paints the jams.

I was surprised that the engines were not assembled by one person, not even the GT3 engine. Mercedes AMG engines make a point of telling you "one man - one engine." I wonder if the new GT3 RS engines are assembled by one master tech. In the video from Frankfurt, Anrdeas P. talks about how the RS is made alongside the Cup cars by the guys at Porsche Motorsport.
