Default yet another clear bra question

How many pieces is your clear bra on the plastic front bumper?

I just had mine done and on the bumper area it's in three pieces, with two seams. Not exactly what I had envisioned.....

Thanks

I have one of the pre-cut bra's. Between the lower front bumper probably 4-6 pieces, the nose 1 piece, the trunk one piece, 2 pieces on the front fenders, 1 piece on the front of the roof and than 1 piece behind each of the 4 wheels and the 2 OEM pieces on the rear fenders..

My white car looks like a jigsaw puzzle, especially now that it is getting 3 years old and the edges are getting black. and still many edges are not covered 1" here and there.

When i replace it I will take a custom, one piece approach where they take out the lights etc.

Thanks Trak, makes sense.

Red lines indicate the seams.

Mine's 1 piece.

The guy who did mine now works at Kanata Ford doing their stuff.

Michael at Mark Mtrs and Jamie at AutoImport both recommend Goldwing on Colonade.

A good installer can do the front fascia in one piece with the edges tucked wherever possible, i.e. lights, markers, etc... removed and the pieces tucked. I personally wouldn't do a bra as a "kit".

No insult intened to the OP, but the above pic has too much orange peel. Some peel will show -and this could be enhanced by the photos- but it should be minimal. Proper stretching and application minimize orange peel. There is no reason for the cuts in the above pic.

As far as US installers, Premier on the west coast and Detailing Dynamics on the east are the best in the business, imo.

Absolutely no insult taken 911dev.

I wish they had done a better job as well. My first experience in the world of "bubble wrapping cars"....But it's (literally) better than nothing.

Now for the good news.....

Just got back from speaking with one of the owners at Goldwing Auto(Peter) and he's ordered a one piece sheet and will redo the front bumper in one piece. Pretty sure they don't do a bunch of 997 GT3's.... and he totally agreed it should have been one piece to begin with.

My RS has the double width film. One piece front and one piece covers the entire hood. Not cheap mind you. Uses the new film which has no orange-peel.

Good luck with the redo. I had mine done by Premier, one piece for the front bumper, all edges tucked in. What you need to be concerned with is the potential for knife cuts into the paint with less-than-stellar installers. I hope this did not happen to you.

I was going to take mine to Premier for the front hood/bumper (i think its about $2000) - but my car is white and most white cars end up looking like jigsaw puzzles (as indicated above) after a while, which may or may not be better than some chips (unless you see lots of track time). Anyone have a white car with a bra that still looks great? And, why does the factory plastic by the rear wheels turn yellow after about a week in the sun and the clearbra material seems to avoid it for years and years?

Default Clear bra fail

This is why you need to get a custom install
I do not put it on my road cars. no need the speeds are to low.

My other track car is completely shot blasted on the front (Mustang who cares.).
You do I do need it, but this one leaves too much paint exposed, so I will end up repainting it anyway when I sell the car or maybe before I put a good clear bra on.

It's a large busy shop that was recommended by both my local Porsche and Lexus dealers, also the owner will personally be doing my "redo" so expectations will be that it gets done correctly.

Everyone makes mistakes, it's how folks chose to deal with their mistakes that sets some above others.
