that is the $30 000.00 question.
If you got it and wont really miss it, then 997.1 all day long for reasons of speed, comfort and style.
if you dont got it, then the 996 is a bargin track toy.
so the kinda simple answer is, do you have it?

Some unknown driver up north laps Laguna Seca in 1:38s and touched 1:37s with a bone stock 996 GT3 + Cup R&P. Mooty knows that no 997 street GT3 or GT3 RS has touched that zone yet.

I must be an oddball because I really love the challenge of driving the 6-GT3 so these comments by Rad appeal to me:
Funny about the "agile and light" comment though. Back-to-back driving of my 6-GT3 and my 914-6 with a 3.0 stuffed in it made my 6-GT3 feel like an unresponsive bloated pig.

sure does help that the 996gt3 is quiet enough to go fully flat up the hill without having to lift or use weirdo exhaust. 997 is too loud, no use getting sent home.

I turned down an allocation of a 997.1 GT3 for the 996 because of its purity. It's more difficult to drive. That's part of the appeal. I'm driving the car. No computer is helping me (other than ABS).
I know a few other guys who have loads of $$$ that feel the same way.
The 997.1 GT3 is a better all around car than the 996 GT3. No question.
I guess it depends what you are looking for.

That's simplistic.

i personally prefer the 997.1 as it has refinement which improves over the 996 platform. For daily driving mostly.
For motorsport, i want the "sharpest knife" in the store that i can afford.
The 997.1 happen to be it. If the budget was less, then a 996 which would hae done the job for me too to be honest.
(to be really honest, im a sucker for 993s, so the headlight has something to do with it.)

The unknown driver coulda been faster if he had less camber(he mentioned that last time when we were at thill) kuhmos don't need camber like Mpsc's. He checked pyrometer readings and he wasn't using all of the tires contact patch : (. Mike
