Default STREET TIRES THAT CAN HANDLE HEAVY RAIN?

anybody have a reccommendation for street tires that handle not only the wet but actually rain??

(i recently had to drive on toyo 888 in rain conditions and it wasnt fun. So rather then use a D.O.T race tire on the street, im looking for the best Street tire on the market that can handle real rain. im in canada eh.)

thoughts?

CORSA or PS2. Great road tire and I have always been happy with their performance in the Seattle wet.

PS2s and StarSpecs are at the top of the list but I'm not sure about sizing on the Dunlops. P-zeros are terrible.

These were on my car when I bought it...I believe my car came from the Seattle area...I picked up the car in Atlanta and drove it to Dallas in a lot of rain and these were great....I took them off once I got the car home, but I'm glad I had them on that day

Hoosier Wets
Toyo RA-1
Corsa System
PS2
R888

in order of grip. Use narrow tires if you're in rainy conditions (225/275).

on 18" track wheels i was using toyo 888 245 front , 305 rear. (stock diameter)
another porsche was on RA-1. in the rain 888 and RA-1 didnt seen to help. We both had to hold back alot.... we were being passed by minivans on the freeway in transits. sad but true.

Im leaning towards PS2 or perhaps the bridgestones... however the DOT Hoosier Wets perked my interest.....

anybody have experience with hoosier DOT wets?

You want Corsas!

They are the best all around, even better than the MPSC.

I know you will get an argument here about that, but I have had both MPSC and Corsa delivered on various cars (and even having a Michelin bias) I found the Corsas to be the better tire... and to think, that if I had thought it possible, I would have insisted to have the Corsas switched for the MPSCs.

Sometimes we learn things in spite of ourselves!

I live in Vancouver and used the PS2s on my 2006 Boxster S. The tires were great in the rain (including one very wet track day) and in the dry. However, in my opinion, the the dry and wet traction dropped off when ambient air temperature dropped below about 5 degrees centigrade (just as Michelin cautions).

Check out the new generation Bridgestone RE-11. Massive grooves seem like they will handle rain well. They have more than enough stick street driving in dry weather.

Shaved or worn-out RA-1 have a lot of dry grip, but they are pretty bad in the rain. The SCCA World Challenge driver that ran the RA-1 when this was the spec tire for the series had very good lap times when racing in the rain (full thread). I ran them in rain events in my old 996 GT3 and they were very good.

Hoosier Wets are the best rain tires that are street legal. I have never run a set, but I have seen them in action at several SCCA Autocross events. You can see a Lotus Elise lifting an inside front wheel under heavy rain running these tires. You can see a lap about 5 secs slower than the fastest lap on dry conditions with a Hoosier A6 (on a 60 secs course), matching the dry lap times of some of the best street tires. Don't run these tires in dry conditions, as they will get chunked and eaten rather quickly. Their grip in the rain is beyond real.
