Just to close off, I toook the car in for it's yearly service, and the dealer
re-tapped the recepticles on the car and everything is apparently ok ...

now to put the GMG bar in ...

BTW, stripping those bolts on a teq roll bar is easy, beeen there done that. First try chasing the threads, if that fails a helicoil is an easy fix too. On a 996 it can be approached from below after taking off the rocker cover.
