That color is great. Walks the fine line between "classy" and "aggressive" perfectly.

Horse****. Paint is paint. Maybe in someone's eyes this was worth the paint formulation. At the end of the day, it's a formula and nothing more. If Porsche can't produce it, than shame on them.

I was once a Chemist. Every paint code has a formulation that can be reproduced. I love this color. If offered, it should cost no more than any other color, unless, of course the formulation includes elephant semen from wildlife in Thailand or something of that nature. Give me a break. Maybe Porsche wants us to pony up for extra cost colors. VW has taken them to the cleaners... maybe a "Vapor" 911?

The color is modegrau (stylish gray) used by Porsche in 1952. There was a 1992 Porsche America Roadster painted in this color -- it was, I believe, owned by Charles Hunter, prepared by Cole Scrogham and won at a Porsche Parade in the 90's. Also, there was a CGT painted in this color. Porsche should have a record of the color. If not, call John Paterek of Paterek Brothers (+1 (973) 635-5924) as he once owned a 1952 America Roadster painted that color. And, yes, you are correct, it should not cost a fortune but then, again, the law of supply and demand governs.

I've always liked the color. I've seen it on Audi TT's, new(er) VW Beetles, and a few times on Rennlist.

For anyone wanting to know, this is what I have found out about this color:

It is not a proprietary color special mixed by Champion, it can be found in the Spies Hecker line of paints. Its called Modern Grey. Old man from Chile was just some name that the guys from Champion made up. The paint code is POR617.

I hope that helps some of you get this color on your cars, if that's what you're going for. I will be painting mine just after the new year.

Thanks again for everyone's help and replies.
