Cello, based on what I have seen on 993 track cars, the shorter gearing does make a big difference. On our track, those who switched the ring and pinion on the 996 GT3 found a negligible difference. apparently the secret is to change the gears themselves which is a mush more costly operation. This applies to *our* track mind you and elsewhere YMMV.

Best,

Road Sport Supply changed the transmission and gearing on their 997.1 RS.

I'd rather have the 50 extra ft-lbs and 8800 rpm of the SharkWerks 3.9. I'll bet the stock gearing suddenly seems just right. If you look at the videos Alex posted of the standard 997.1 RS and the 3.9 Kermit, between shifts it looks like the stock car has let off the gas.

An additional 20 ft-lbs in my 2001 Boxster S transformed it from NEEDING lower gearing for daily driving(!) to gearing that was fine.

Between the higher RPM and the additional torque of the 3.9, the gap between shifts closes significantly.

Now I need to go drive it to make sure.

Best,
Bob, yep chging out the gears themselves is what is necessary; ess a tranny re-build. Costly yes, but prob more performance bang for the buck then many of the other mods for this car .. Track dependent tho ;-)

I thought the per seat weights were more like:

Standard Sport ~53lbs
GT2 ~39lbs (standard RS)
CGT ~25lbs (ROW Club Sport)

So savings per pair would be -28lb and -56lb verses standard GT3 seats.

Also, Porsche website lists plastic rear window as standard on RS. Whether or not US gets it is another question.

Regardless, as others have said gearing will likely be the biggest differentiator.

I do agree that the LWFW would be a nice option to have!

It will be interesting to see what the Nurburgring Nordschleife lap time comes in at.
I went to a LWFW on my .1 GT3 which was great for the track but I found the tranny rattle at idle (every stop light, stop sign, etc) tiring. Ditto for the rattle effect on my 08 RS. Ok, maybe I'm just a wimp, call em like you see em...but I'm perfectly happy with the dual mass FW on my 10 GT3 - it's a bit lighter than the one I had on my .1 GT3 and oh so peaceful at those traffic lights.

In my case it would eliminate about 195 lb. I couldn't drive without AC in Oklahoma

i'm with you. my '10 GT-3 seems about perfect for a dual purpose vehicle. you can maim it of course to make it more "track worthy" but in the end, a better driver will still beat you with a stocker.

i def like it better than my .1 3 or RS.
