With lower gearing and more power (and more rubber), I would expect RS to post a larger acceleration inprovement than that...

I read that the new 2011 RS

0-60: 3.8 seconds

Also more power + more grip + shorter gears + LWFW = FASTER NEW GT3RS

If its lighter even better, but even if it weighs the same as the new GT3, the above will make its a faster track car overall.

ISN'T THAT THE POINT OF THE GT3RS?????? FASTER TRACK CAR!

0-60 numbers are always better than 0-100kph (62mph), so maybe GT3 is 3.9s to 60mph...

GT3 was tested at 3.7 0-60 by Car & Driver IIRC, so with shorter gearing and slight power bump the RS should probaby see 3.5 or so, and noticeably quicker 1/4 mile time. Wonder what the trap speed will be? I know these are not intended to be "drag cars" but the times give useful info.

The improvement in 0-100 time from the 08 RS is impressive - 0.6 seconds. What's also interesting is that the shorter gearing and higher hp does not make the RS a lot quicker than the regular GT3, which itself is a lot faster than the 08 RS.

I don't believe a peak horsepower increase of 20 hp (or even 35) can make a difference as big as 0.6 seconds. I think the new engine's torque curve must be a lot beefier than the 997.1 engine throughout the revband. Can't wait to drive one!

FYI: August issue of evo mag tested the 2010 GT3 0-100 time at 9.2 seconds, and 1320 feet - 12.4@118.

You forgot about the roll cage, which adds a lot of weight also and is standard in the RS. In the ROW models, this could be equalled out by the bucket seats.

In the 4 second range the 0-60 time is usually 0.2 seconds faster than the the 0-62 time. In the 6 second range it is about 0.3 in most cases, and this delta increases as do the 0-60/62 times.

I like how Mini does it. They publish the weight of the car with all possible options and a full tank of gas.

My 2009 JCW is listed at 2,700 lbs, and mine has almost no options. With a full tank of gas it came in at 2,600 lbs!!!

I wish Porsche was that honest.

Absolutely. But if it will only be driven at 60% on the track, then it really does not matter if you are in the regular GT3 or the new RS....OR, for instance....a new Dodge Neon.

EVO drives vvvvvveeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrryyyyyyyy sssssssllllllllllllllooooooooowwwwwww

In the current issue of Road and Track, the got a a 1320 of 11.8 @ 119.5. That is only a 10th behind the fastest 997TT they have tested and quite a bit faster than either of the MKI RS's they tested.

You guys forgot that the RS is 44mm wider, which adds weight. Also improves performance though.

Maybe the power improvement added a little weight too?

My question is, how will Porsche's 3.8 RS with 450hp compare to Sharkwerks 500hp 3.9 997.1 GT3.

Hey Elise,

How did you lose the weight in your GT3?

The gearing difference will be felt. Used to work wonders on the older air-cooled cars; I wonder if it ultimately would be a practical and worthwhile mod for the the (track-toy) GT3 II ..
