997 OMP CUP STEERRING WHEEL IN STREET 997 GT3
If using the 997 CUP steering wheel and CUP quick release in street 997 GT3 and you wish to maintain the Horn function follow these instructions and you will have the horm function you desire.
*provided by FVD Brombacher (thanks guys)
The horn installation utalizes the wires contained in kit 997 347 084 90 (the steering wheel
and hub with the two red push-to-talk buttons which mount on the steering wheel) and the
wiring from kit 109 540 058 099. This wiring is used to pin out the single yellow connector on
the airbag clock spring for the horn (f1 horn/f2 horn ground) and replace with kit wiring, then
connecting the 2 red push to talk butons to the wiring extensions on the yellow clock spring
connector. This then allows the red push to talk buttons to function as a horn. Since this OMP
wheel is a motorsport part and the hub (also being a momo motorsport part) neither of these
are designed for plug and play on the horn and neither mfg supplies instructions. This wiring
at the connector in the car at the clock spring will need to be pinned out at the f1 and f2 and
wired into these button to make the horn work. The button mearly supplies ground.

the steering wheel installation will allow you to revert back to stock.
i do not have any pictures, however the installation is a little tricky. A slight trimming had to be done on stock hub to allow fitment.
i did not use the motorsport quick disconnect hub, however i plan on it this year.
i currently have functioning horn via the two red buttons.
Making sure the steering wheel is dead straight takes a little time as it is very easy to be slightly off.
I will be doing another car next month and be able to give you more input.

Nope, im on the stock Hub currently with no quick release.
No wires were cut or added either.
It is a beautiful steering wheel.
Im going to install the porsche motorsports hub for quick release this year.
the issue with the motorsports hub is that causes the wheel to be that much closer to your body and im trying to figure out the horn functions to still work on the wheel when connected as per the FVD instructions.

I am working on horn stuff for a quick release as well - this is how I dug up this old thread...
I want to avoid the telephone cord wrapped around the hub "custom install" if possible.
In my previous car I just wired the horn to a blank switch in the dash which was nice and easy...
This car has no blank switches... unless I void PASM and then I could use that and go with easy qr hub...
Ideally I would like an easy on off qr wheel with two buttons -- left button flashes lights and right button horn... this is not proving to be an easy off the shelf bolt on...

Gomez had a OMP steering wheel with QR.... he ran into a lot of issues with the computer.... you have to make sure you DO NOT take off the steering wheels sensor.
FYI, he does not have the horn function.
Aren't you guys worried about not having an airbag for the street?

In this picture you will see just above the wiper stalk (right side of steering column) a factory wing up/down rocker switch on the center console -- that was my horn button and it worked perfectly...
I am not worried about airbags on the street... could be famous last words but my car was getting a lot more track time than street time so I thought I would taylor the car to the most prevalent use...
same will likely be true for this car...

if you want to have horn functions etc with a quick release wheel and NO "telephone cord" then you will want to purchase the following quick release:
rapfix II:
http://www.worksbell.co.jp/en/products/rapfix/
Im going to attempt the Porsche Motorsport Hub to do this, but will have to wait and see.

seems to me that there is a decent market for an easy solution to this problem... not millions of units but there are a lot of lappers that want to keep horn function with a detachable wheel.
someone smarter than me needs to sell an easy solution to me with instructions that are pictures :-)
