Default Dynamic Engine Mounts Explained

Anyone else catch the new Car and Driver? Page 40 has a whole write-up on the new engine mounts. Quite interesting...

Just got the issue today and read the article.

Much more high-tech than I had imagined.

They should transfer the guys from the engine mount department to the RMS department.

I wonder where the dynamic engine mounts fall in stiffness compared to the standard mounts. In the full stiffness mode would they be stiffer than the standard mounts? I’d also be curious to know how much weight these add.

It's actually very simple and robust componentry and expected to last the life of the car...according to the head engineer.

In their softest setting they are twice as soft and in their firmest four times as firm. the regular mounts are a huge compromise with performance losing out. When we drove the cars on the press paunch they wanted to prove how well they worked so they encouraged us to drop, literally side-step with no feathering, the clutch at 4000rpm. The Car 100 feet of rubber with no axle hop as a result of the dynamic mounts.
