VERY much wish I did. Like that car. All business.

Very, very curious to sample Manthey's wares personally. Have a standing invitation to visit them at the Ring that I haven't been able to make good on (I know).

But they don't let me out much around here.

I ain't givin' out no clues, but I can't believe I haven't gotten a crapstorm of emails, etc. yet. Something prompted me to think "Oh no, I didn't, did I?" and reach for my advance copy, only to see, that, yes, I did.

Ah well, what's a life without mistakes? Probably a bit boring... Only thing in my biz is you can't fix them!

I don't buy that 6:1 or 7:1 ratio from wheels. I have driven them and the stock ones at the same events. The car won't perform as a 300 lbs lighter car. It performs better because I run slicks with the Monoblocs and MPSC with the stock wheels.

I took 300 lbs from my 996 GT3 back in 2006, and I know how it felt being 300 lbs lighter, it was a monster fast car, got it down to 2,760 lbs weighed at the SCCA Solo Nationals impound scales. There is no way a set of wheels is going to give me that feeling, not remotely.

At most it's a 2:1 thing. Combined with PCCB, monobloc wheels and michelin slicks, I took 111 lbs from the GT3 RS on unsprung weight, ask me if I was driving a 777 lbs lighter GT3 RS. As much respect as I have for Olaf Manthey's work, it is bad to interview him on Friday night.
Thanks Rad, I was blown away by what I read.

oh my. you really REALLY should make it out there. i'm a Ruf guy thru and thru, but the three times i've visited Manthey's outfit at the 'Ring, my jaw just drops to the floor and you just know that if you want stuff that comes from deep racing know-how, Manthey is right at the top of the food chain. i'm sure you'll make the trip soon enough... and will be looking forward to a story in the mag!

they used to have Gary Williamson's blue McLaren F1-- the one heavily modified and 'Ring-tuned by Manthey, and tested in Evo magazine a year or two ago-- on display in the lobby one time i went.

oh, absolutely love Excellence by the way! i'm subscribed to at least 3 or 4 Porsche-only magazines, and while I tend to open one of the other ones first (because it has such purrty pictures and a nice flashy layout,) i almost always find that Excellence has the "meatiest", most substantial content of the bunch!

Interesting to note cover says Manthey adds power, but inside says he didn't.

Well sort of, it initially says:
Curious to see how he could hone the GT2 without jacking up its power,

Then later goes on to detail the power upgrades - maybe implying that the "honing" sans more power was not that successful ? or more likely just cr&p journalism

Those BBS magnesium wheels are gorgeous. I wonder if they make them in a center-lock version?

Or maybe, even more likely, you didn't read it carefully/thoughtfully?

Kuah wrote it/I read it as Manthey, curious to see how he might improve the 997 GT2 without adding power, looked to other areas FIRST. A few graphs later, the story gets into what he did to add power AFTER he addressed other areas. I believe that passage starts with "But who would pass up a chance for more horsepower?"

Frankly, I wish more people approached Porsches power last...

So Pete what is this crap about unsprung weight and a 7:1 ratio? Theres no way my car behaves as its 300lbs lighter.

Kuah is one of my all time hero Porsche journos

Personally I think the GT2 chassis out of the box does not need any improvements and Manthey's stuff is only any good for serious track users with his aero add ons changing Porsches already superb aero package and actually makes the car slower top speed than stock even with 600hp !

Below are some photos of the detail on the intercoolers on the Manthey GT2

Here is the cat on the exhaust system which Kuah says is special from Akropovic although it actually looks identical to stock GT2

Here is the cooling set up on Mantheys Maha dyno...

The cover refers to an article as "962 in car", but that article is about a 956 according to the text. Is that it? Do I get a cookie now?

PS: I just renewed for another 3 years. Great mag!
