Default Thoughts on Z06 GT1 from GT3 track guys

As you guys know as I rehab my back I get closer and closer to my old self.
My old self really regrets selling my GT3 really REALLY bad. My CEO doesnt feel comfortable spending another $140K on the MKII GT3. I dont have a problem
getting a used 07 997 TT. But as I look at the cars in that price range it brings in a NEW 09 Z06 GT1 Championship Edition. Its the first Corvette that really strikes a cord with me. Look as this car and give me your opinions on this car. Its a competitor for the GT3 at half the price. The Chevy dealer doesnt seem to be to
bright and is offering me $5K more on my AMG trade than other places like Porsche dealers.
Here is the link

BTW I called my local dealer and ask him if I could order this car. He said "Hey I am going fishing tomorrow and I am off this weekend so come in and see me
on Monday." I was like WTF!! anyone else who sold $85K cars would be on the phone with an answer in 5 minutes. THis guy puts me on hold for 4 days!!!!
I guess I have to remember this is my local monte carlo dealer. But sheesh!!

the corvette ZO6 is a really good car. especially for the money. You can buy used Z06's for cheap too. Buy a good used if anything.

This 09 corvette in question however is really disappointing for a 09 model.. It only hosts stripes and colors???? the "GT1 edition" .... why not call it the "velcro sneaker wearing, blue blocker sunglasses having corvette show typical demographic edition"??

they should have introduced a light weight track inspired edition. (seats, minimal options, big brakes, etc..) to introduce "stripe package" is insulting to even me as a classic corvette enthusist.

but yeah, these cars when set up can run really well..... and cheap to run too.... alot of fun really

Only comment I'd make is that from everything I've read the suspension tuning done on the ZR1 rendered the car far more driveable at the limit verses Z06. Rumor was that these changes would eventually make there way to Z06 but I haven't seen anything official yet. You might want to hold out. Or buy a new GT3...

Is that the Grey one or the Yellow? Nice packages, but it's all just decals. If I was going for a Vette, I'd get a used one at this point. Let someone else take that new car loss.

if you like it get it. I drove one prior to getting my 997. 1: It smelled like a bodyshop inside. no big deal but it did. 2: sure went fast. 3: I felt isolated from the motor 4: do not like the idea of having 20 brake pads.
It also felt gigantic compared to a 911. So I am happy I paid $10K more for a used 997GT3 than a new Z.

OG,

Is this the ZR1? If it is, I would stay away from it. A buddy of mine got one and is now "Lemon Law"ing it because of the multiple problems he's had with it.

If it's the Z06 or a variation of it, then (with your back) I'd go for it. ANother friend of mine has a Z06 and a GT3 and he raves about how comfortable the Z06 is and easy to drive, but still fast enough to keep up with or blow by anyone. He uses it for street and track.

I've seen Z06s (All in stock) for $15,000 off MSRP. You could really get a great deal right now on a GM Car. Good Luck

Thanks guys. I think what I get out of this is either buy used or get a plain Z06 and take the
$15k off. This GT1 edition is just a dress up package and its probably has the Corvette guys drooling
and I wont get such a good deal on a limited edition.
The longer I wait the better the deals are getting. I saw a 08 Aston Martin in the low 70s with 1.2K on the clock.

Paul, I've thought a great deal about buying a vette. Unless it compliments a P car in the stable (which isn't practical for me at the moment), I would feel like I was in cheaper, lesser car. Wait, it is a cheaper, lesser car. Get the 07 tt and call it a day. Refined, power, pcar.

OG - Since you regret selling your 997 GT3 and $$$ is an issue, why not buy another nice used 997.1 GT3, once the new ones are out. You'll be able to buy one for significantly less that what you got when you sold yours (won't have to pay much more than half the cost of a new GT3 - similar cost to Vette).

Those seats with the skulls are just insulting. I swear GM thinks huge hood scoops and skulls sells cars.

Absolutely. You could pick up a 997.1 GT3 for much less than you sold yours for - and since you regret selling yours - this seems like the obvious answer. Stick with Porsche's and you cant go wrong
