Default GT3 2007 White Smoke

I just bought a 2007 GT3 with 5600 miles. I dont know if this happens to all GT3's but sometimes when I turn on the car a good amount of white smoke comes out of the exhaust and engine top. The car came with an aftermarket exhaust but it still has the catalitic converters. Do any of you have any Idea what this can be due to?

This is normal. For me, it used to happen more often when the car was cold. Don't worry about it. I do not believe there is a problem. I am sure you will get some good feed back here on the list.

Also, here are some links for you.

"white smoke coming from the engine top" is not normal on start up or any other time...

If you are getting white smoke for prolonged period or cloud during every start up you may be burning anti freeze....

Me thinks white smoke is not OK.

The normal big cloud of blue smoke that happens every 30 starts or so is normal, especially after running it hard (Trackday) and then letting it sit and start cold....

I have never seen white smoke coming out.....

White smoke from the engine top or the exhaust are not quite the same thing.
If it's the exhausts, mine does it too when I park on a ramp with the nose up. if applicable, try parking nose down or on a flat surface.

White or blue would be coolant versus oil. I've had two 997 GT3s and the second -- current -- one did show a couple of light, smokey cold starts. I'd say a minimal amount of oil in there somewhere. It seems to have stopped this habit. There's no way any smoke should be in the engine compartment or coming out the "top" of the engine or through the engine cover or deck lid -- that's worth a visit to the dealer.

My guess is, the crank case builds up some pressure. As it cools on shutdown, the pressure dissipates and draws some oil past the rings.

White smoke from top of engine or when engine shut-off (while engine is hot) is probably coolant. Make sure coolant reservoir cap is screwed on tight.

Occasional white smoke from exhaust on start-up is normal. Essentially what everyone else said!

I've seen it in the cars with the non GT3 engine quite often at autoX and track. I dont' remember why but only that it's not good.

I've never had any smoke from my GT3.

Horizontal plane configuration engines have done this sort of thing since the dawn of man.... ;-)

Now, figuring if it is 'OK' is each individual case is entirely yet another thing ---

Over here in Germany we even have a technical term for this well known phenomenon. We call it the "Boxer-Furz" - Flat6 fart
