Isn't it 9A1? Anyway, given the GT3 "made it through" with the good, old donk and there's an engineering design factory type quoted as saying with perhaps yet another revision to extend its lifespan, I can't imagine this purported RS will arrive with a bespoke hotrod Carrera powerplant in place of the thoroughbred race engine. That would be a calamity.
Anyway, if you look closely, this car is miles away from the 997.1 RS.

When did Porsche drivers start paying more for new 911's than old Ferraris? : )?

I should say "too close to" the $200K psych that the GT2 couldn't bring. If you add PDK, CCB, nost-lift, engine-mount and maybe just full leather (forget the various new froufrou items) it adds up, give or take California's new 10% sales tax, to a number painfully too close to $200K whether it's a check or a lease.
My guess is that it'll start off somewhere in the $140K-$155k range....

997 GT3 RS (MY2010) engine spec...
...so does that mean the GT3 RS for MY2010 gets a 4.0 liter version of the awesome GT1 block (in line with the 2009 RSR) with, let's say, 455bhp?

It'll surely be a GT1 block but I wouldn't count on a 4.0l, since the last RSR was a 3.8 and the 997.1 RS was a 3.6.

In my humble, as soon as PAG is ready to bolt the robotic double clutcherr into the big HP 911's, they'll rewrite history and anoint the PDK. In short, who gives a royal, flying f-.-c-k what some marketing imbecile does to pitch the product, when the GT3 and or RS has the PDK on the order guide, I'm keen to drive it and I'll likely be stupid enough to pay the premium.
After a couple of months with no track time, I think my "compass" is off "true north" and I want to get at least a day with a 911 on the track before I open the door to a 430 or 360CS, especially if that was instead of the 997.2 GT3. Thinking in terms of depreciation and fun, the Ferrari seems to have the upper hand now that those late model cars have taken their cuts.
Of course, if Stuttgart said "sell us a kidney and we'll pay for it with a PDK RS" I'd likely sign up. : )

From what little I've heard, the "corporate line" is to say that "enthusiast" cars from Porsche are manual shifters. That contradicts just having attended the "enthusiast" launch session for the Box/Cay where the "draw" was the PDK cars and all of the pitch was about PDK.
The rest of your post is interesting as well. I too would be 'keen' to drive a GT3 class car outfitted with PDK. I wonder if there will be an option with the next model year (2011)?
