Default Broken front splash shields

One of my front "splash shield" or whatever that part is. (made out of stainless steel) has cracked at it's thinnest point. Do they serve any purpose at all ?. Thinking of just removing them on both sides, I presume cup cars don't have them, just want to make sure that they are not part of the brake cooling system.

Not sure what you're talking about. Pictures would be helpful (even a cell phone pic), or part#.

Rad, I'll try to take a picture this pm, I can't get a good picture without removing the wheel. It is about 2.5 inches wide, and forms kinda a airdam in the front of the rotor, from the top of the rotor and about covers about 1/3rd of the rotory

Erik, don't take pictures. I know the part, you need it back.

This shield creates an air tunnel to cool down the front rotors. It's a very important part of the front brakes cooling system, it works in conjunction with the cooling duct attached to the coolant lines in the inner fender well.
