Default OT TV replacement

I would ask this in off topic but some of those guys would suggest a 5" Casio.

My 58" HP DLP just blew a lamp, and rather than spend $500 on a new lamp I was thinking of just getting new plasma. I was thinking of a Pano TH-58PZ800U
You guys got any other suggestions other than DLP? somewhere between 2-4K?

thanks in advance.

The panny 58PZ800U is a great 1080P plasma. It should be a big step up from the DLP with better blacks and contrast. I say go for it. The 60 pioneer KURO is a great plasma also but a little more expensive but it can be had for less than 4k.

Old Guy, this stuff is a serious hobby of mine and I HIGHLY suggest you take a look at a Pioneer Kuro Plasma. They are absolulty the best.

Also here is something new from Sony http://www.theonion.com/content/vide...rce=EMTF_Onion
It's pretty hilarious.

OldGuy, the Pano is an excellent choice and you will not beat it for the feature and value combination. I have two Pioneer Elite TV's - the Kuro is the replacement for the Elite and they are great TV's. So, for my next TV I will highly consider one of the high end Pano's. Also, Cnet.com gave the Pano the Editor's Choice Award: http://reviews.cnet.com/flat-panel-t...?tag=mncol;lst

Depends on the light. Strong light get the LCD. Easily controlled ambient light Plasma.

I read that Pioneer is getting out of the plasma business so it may be a good time to buy one.

Personally, I bought a Samsung 61" LED DLP 1080p a couple of weeks ago on sale for $1000. Since the lamp is LED, there is no color wheel, it "boots" up quicker, and the LED lamp is rated at 60,000 hours. The price was so low, not even Best Buy would match the price. It looks like Samsung is getting out of DLP.

LCD looks like the consumer favorite and "winner."

Congrats, you will enjoy that pano. The AVS forum is a great place to get info on this stuff.

Great choice. I initially debated between the Pano TH-58PZ800U and the Pioneer equivalent with a $2-4k budget for something that would hopefully last about 5yrs. Pioneer does have nicer blacks but only if you're comparing side by side, otherwise the extra $1k was tough for me to justify. I was shopping as the economy was tanking further last September and noticed the humble 50in Pano TH-50PX80U. Great picture but was 720p vs 1080p. Thing to remember is cable hd is still 720p and I have zero blue-ray dvds and would have to pay the blue-ray dvd rental fee premium for each movie. So I ended up buying the 50in TH-50PX80U from Amazon for $999. It's a good choice for those stepping up or sideways in tv size until you upgrade in a couple years when 60in plasmas are under $2k.

Old Guy, yes I read and sometimes post on AVS...great forums too...but I totally disagree that the Pano looks better than the Pioneer Kuro....to my eyes the Pioneer Kuro is much better with gray scale and the overall depth and accuracy of the picture. Don;t get me wrong the Pano is great too but....you want the best get the Kuro.
