Can you translate this message ??

-Does this mean ONLY race cars are dry sump (but not GT3 street car?)
-What does he mean by dry sump (doesnt P call the current 997 motor dry sump ?)

yes, they refer to the current (non M64/GT1) system as an "integrated dry sump".....it's a wet sump.

I think you mean the current m96/97 as the wet sumper.
I believe the entire street line gets the DI 9A1 engine, with the RSR cars getting the old gt1. Probable hommogulation gt3rs with a gt1 would be my guess with ALL the others towing the line.

I'm confused. At a Porsche event (with representatives of Porsche on hand) I asked if the new 9A1 engine was going in the race cars. I was told yes.

I guess the question is whether the 9A1 engine is a dry sump or not. From the technical description it seems like it could be called a dry sump since it has 4 or more scavenge pumps. It is also lower (height) than the present integrated dry sump motor.

So, which is it I wonder?

I would think it strange if Porsche spent all that money developing the new lubrication system in the 9A1 if they didn't intend to race the engine (see, for example, the Nordschleife test rig they built) that way. The vast majority of "regular" 911s are not tracked, and the current integrated (wet) sump hasn't (to my knowledge) proved at all deficient for regular road use.

My guess is that either (1) Porsche is referring to the 9A1 system with as "dry sump" or (2) maybe some engines failed under heavy loads in their testing of the new GT cars and they decided they needed to make a change to a more traditional dry sump system.

Porsche calls the new 9A1 (note not A91) engine a dry sump in the technical docs handed out at the introduction. The make a big deal about 4 scavenge pumps and one more in the reservoir. The reservoir is in the engine. Maybe for addd cooling they plan and external tank?

I think the question is IS the new GT motor setup a TRUE drysump. If MJones was talking to a Porsche marketing engineer and someone asks the guy in public if the new motor is a dry sump I am betting he would say YES, Danke. But to all of us that means a wetsump. Someone needs to get around the marketing crap and ask the question is the new GT motors TRUE dry sumps with a SEPARATE oil sump tank.
The thing is though, as well as all of us KNOW MJones I would have thought he would have asked that very question unless the Chief Engineer had a very tick actent and didnt understand what he was asking.
