The Caddy CTS-V gets a Dry sump- Go figure
We lose our dry sump in the same year that the new Cadillac CTS-V GETS a dry sump motor.
Now my father in law is going to be telling me how much better the Cadillac CTS-V is than the Porsche GT3 MkII is.
He will be telling me that "the Cadillac has a Dry sump and the Porsche DONT!."
I will say "do you know what a Dry sump is?"
Him: DONT matter your wus little car dont even have any horsepower. The Caddy has 556 a HUNDRED more than your little sports car.
Me: Well I will over come it with TORQUE!"
him; Torque! TORQUE!? the Caddy has 561 foot pound How many you got?"
Me: 320 or something like that
Him 320!!! THREE TWENTY!! **** I dont even need a dry sump to kick your *** in your little german beetle!!! You shouldnt even be on the same NASCAR track with me, I will blow your doors off!!! AND I will throw a Beer can at you when I blow you away.
I slither away as best I can

Yep, this is probably the shame we'll have to endure OG. Only two things worse could transpire for you (or the rest of us for that matter):
- the caddy doing the nurburgring lap faster than the next gt3 and he'll laugh at us because a tank outdid the overpriced beetle.
- the next gt3 is photographed at a race track with a fried engine due to oil starvation and then he'll really take the **** out of you... lol
Thanks Porsche for doing us proud yet again...

Herr Dr. Wendelin Wiedeking is committed to make money to the owners of Porsche AG, not to make Porsche owners proud, or cars competitive in any significant racing series...
Racing seems ( in his opinion ) to be just waste of money. At least as far as there are enough ( new to Porsche ) people to buy those fat-*** behemoths ( = Cayennes ) or that newcomer, fugly as hell Panamera.

OG, I thought the LSA has wet-sump...
"The LSA and the LS9 began with the basic 6.2-liter LS3’s aluminum block and heads, and they share a 9.1:1 compression ratio, but there are numerous detail distinctions. For example, you won’t find any titanium in the LSA’s valvetrain, and valve lift is 12.2mm versus 14.1 in the LS9.
The connecting rods are steel rather than titanium, and the oil resides in a conventional wet sump, baffled to resist excessive surge in extended side loading, as distinct from the LS9’s race-style dry-sump setup. Like the LS9, the LSA is force-fed by the latest (generation six) Eaton supercharger with a four-vane impeller. But the LSA employs a slightly smaller blower and a one-brick Behr intercooler (the LS9’s is a two-brick design), and maximum boost is 9.0 psi (versus 10.5 for the LS9)."

Cfjan, you are correct. The LSA is a wet sump. The ZR-1(LS9) and the Z06(LS7) have dry sump engines. So the Old Guy does not have to listen to that ribbing from his father in law. Though having driven the new CTS-V he WILL have to worry about the performance. This car will hand out a serious beating on all but a few major performance cars.

Hey I just got that from the bible of car mags Motor trend that said the CTS-V was getting the dry sump from the Zr-1.
CERTAINLY they could be wrong.
Can you guys check it out? Read the article its probably on line.

CTS-V does not have a dry sump.
I imagine it was cheaper for GM to put a bulge in the hood rather than drop the motor lower with the dry sump. The CTS-V obviously sells at a much lower price point than the ZR1.

If you read the CTS-V article in the latest MotorTrend it clearly states the dry-sump was removed in this application. I believe the intercooler is changed as well. Same basic motor as ZR1 otherwise.
FWIW, I like the caddy over your C63.

If you had driven a GT3 instead of a 944 you would like the AMG better
My inlaws(people over 70 who favor cadillacs) have a 05 and its a piece of crap already. The AMG is clearly
better made
The motor trend online article surely says wet sump. I was
reading the paper version when I posted this.

Badly worded paragraph in the hardback magazine
I messed it up, but the paragraph was not worded well in the paragraph in the magazine:
You can see how I would have taken this to mean that the dry sump system was coming off the ZR1 and going on the CTS-V.
The roomy engine compartment of a sedan allowed plenty of pricey pieces to come off the exotic ZR1 engine like the dry-sump oiling system.

Yeah, but at least you can get your Beetle serviced, which will be pretty hard for him to do when his POS Chevy breaks, and it will, after GM goes bankrupt.
