SALVAGED GT3RS = GOOD TRACK CAR PROJECT??
#34
I saw this car crash a few months ago--the impact was obviously severe--After watching the impact, (about 90 mph into the wall), there is no way it could ever be made right again for sensible $.

can't do that without serious bodywork and modifications to mounting points

Farnbacherloles does a 3.8 and a 3.6(gt3 engine) conversion, but it's quite expensive.
As far as this car, I think it would be cost prohibitive unless you do alot of the work yourself. A major DIY project!
A better choice would be an early 996c2 as Eclou mentioned.

the GT3 dry sump engine (and transmission) is too tall to fit into the normal engine compartment of a cayman or boxster. The normal wetsump 911 engine is significantly shorter (vertically) primarily due to lack of the sump.
gt3 engine
cup engine
997 engine
cayman engine
As you can see- the gt3 and gt3 cup engine are tall in the Rear section- that square looking thing is the all-power dry sump system thingamajig.
the cayman and 997 drivetrain is tallest directly on top of the cylinders- they lack the dry sump of the GT3 and therefore are able to fit tightly into the mid-engine layout.
in the M-speed cayman, they spent a few 100k Euros to get everything to work and most of it was re-designing the rear of the car, redoing the mounting points to custom fit their beastly creation together.
Porsche was so upset with them at the track, that there was a dispute as to what to call the car. M-Speed crew actually fitted a ferrari sticker to the front boot lid as a large middle finger to the big boys in Pcar corporate.
