I guess the only other point is that turbocharging has left the world of most professional racing for now, and certainly the RS is a much closer approximation of the 997 cup car than is the GT2.

Interesting comment.

I can't see myself as being faster around a race track in the RS than a stock GT2, even with the mods I would make (alignment, dampers, and Alex's 3.8 setup). The torque and rear-end grip just open up a whole new realm of possibilities...

And, in the hands of someone who really knows what he's doing, I was shocked at how fast the 2 was at Infineon. But not as shocked as the pro driving it...

I can fully believe that a well-driven 2 can dice with Cup cars (of a few years ago, or so-so driven new ones). And that, to me, is stunning. On the other hand, Gerry's point reminds me that many drivers, especially those in earlier, lighter Porsches, often do indeed go quicker with less power in a given car -- at least at first....

Cheers!

There can be a GT3, without the RS.
We'll see...the 997GT3 II could potentially be better than the current US-spec RS in all aspects.

Pete-

I am sure you are right about the GT2, and part of my reason for selling it was I liked the feel of the GT3RS both on the road and the track better. However, having said that, i have raced more turbocharged cars in the past in the old IMSA and elsewhere than the NA ones, so I should be faster in a GT2. It just does not have that instant acceleration and howl of the GT3. But, the GT2 has to be faster, given the power and improved dynamics.

Thanks- Gerry

Careful inspection of the GT2 revels small differances in suspension, much more like a track car and much less like a street car, the gt2 is a better car than a gt3 the only thing left to debate is the na vs. turbo thing

NJCroc-

You may be right, but somehow this thread reminds of the Nissan GTR versus 911 Turbo debate, that keeps on going and who cares anyway in the long run...There will always be better GT2s and GT3s that come down the pike, and we will have the same debate in a couple of years about other new Porsche variants...It is their business model for those of us who can afford these great cars.

Thanks - Gerry

Want to thank everyone who helped the decision.

Was all set on a black/black GT2,then another one with yellow belts (oooh la la) and stitching. Watch out for anyone selling you cars from Boynton Beach!

But in the end, this car will get 2Kmi/yr with 1K of them being track (OK, 1.5K/yr with 500track, whatever) but it's gonna be a GT3RS. Already pulled the trigger and it will be here in 10 Days. The exhaust note, jangling clutch at idle, cage...just too much goosebumps I guess.

Really, the collectable car from this era will be an RS no doubt. That's not to say that the GT2 isn't FANTASTIC, it is. And if profits allow I'll have one of those too. But reality and experience tell me that the GT2 market has a way to go down far more than the RS market right now. It's like buying futures. But that's not fair either because if the RS was not available I'd get a 2 and not think twice.

I'd send y'all pics but who hasn't seen a blk/org RS? This one is a W.R. special. No wart, no frills. PCCB's, Xenons. no Nav, no PCM. Supposedly like His, but I'll never be worthy

Better yet, I'm stripping the decals and the Orange (what were they thinking?) wheels for some nice ultra-lightweight HRE's and I'll send ya those.

Who here thinks that I should paint the mirrors and spoiler tip SY to match the brakes?

Cheers

Oh, PSA? perineum? You're so busted!!!!

[QUOTE=RSA333;5641426]Pete-

" I liked the feel of the GT3RS both on the road and the track better. "

Telling words and I think you made the right choice; at a minimum you supported my observations and impressions (after living with a GT2 for 4 years, and loving it).

I have nary a regret.

Noooooo; if not black mirrors then maybe carbon to match the wing. What are you doing about the rear script? That might look cool in yellow.

carbon mirror covers, silver RS decals and silver wheels. Not sure on the HRE, they are nowhere close to be lightweight, not even their Competition series.

Sell the orange wheels to a GT3 RS owner with an Orange car (they look great).

Mooty, buy those Orange wheels and sell the black ones to allegretto.

My old C21's were far lighter than the turbo wheels and slightly lighter than the GT3 wheels.

I'd say Dymag, but I saw a set 6 mo old and they were yellowing already.

What's your suggestion?

I like the silver with the blk much better than the orange.

Champion RS171's are an edgier version of the GT3 wheels. They would look pretty sharp
