Had RMS at 10,700 miles. Was fixed last week. Is leaking again 200 miles later! I am concerned about warranty expiring in 2 years. Should we talk to Porsche as a group?

Have any of you thought about simply changing to an oil other than Mobil 0W40?

I tried.
Spent 3 days on the phone with PCNA 2 weeks ago. Asked them a simple question: Do you have a solution for the GT3 RMS that will stop the leaks (something other than "take it in for another seal")....bottom line, did not get an answer (they would not let me talk to a supervisor, told me only to take it to the dealer for a diagnosis...duh, I KNOW what it is !).

Have already had the RMS replaced once, now leaking again. I will not ruin another 2 days and the car torn apart until they have a fix.

Oil is not the answer, and if it was you would create another problem by causing excess ware. If its to thick to leak its to thick to lube. Its up to Porsche to come up with something. Mine is so small for now its a non issue. I know the end of my crank is getting lubed. (read into that what you want)

Maybe it is time to start a legal fund amoung GT3 owners that have had RMS leaks. Porsche does not seem to have a reliable fix or a way to resolve the problem.

Its is not the "thickness" of the oil that is causing the problem, but the chemical makup of Mobil 0W40 and many of the Mobil 1 oils. This, along with excessive oil usage has been a trait of many Mobil 1 products for 30+ years.

But, I guess it would be a waste of time to simply change oils, like so many already have, to see if your problem is eliminated.

In all fairness to the prophet 99, when my c4s was leaking back in 04 I switched to 20w40 and it slowed significantly.

The 997 variable cam actuators run off of hydrostatic columns of oil. You will get errors with viscosity higher than specified. I run Motul 5w40 but in fairness no 997TT owner has reported a RMS leak on Rennlist, Rennteam, 6spd, Pelican despite the factory fill and positive crankcase pressure in the TT's. It's not the oil.

Why do we think we can figure it out if Porsche can't, I am going to give them the benefit of the doubt. I suspect they have figured it out in some fashion but can't come up with an affordable fix. Lets face it, this is not a technological challenge, its a cost issue at this point, the cheap fix(39cent gasket) is not working. Its an interesting debate because this should not be a difficult repair. You would think the Porsche would get it fixed fast. this is such a small community, Bad news travels fast. Why would you want to damage your reputation over something trivial.

Porsche is not putting their reputaion at risk. The vast majority of buyers will accept "as normal" anything Porsche says is normal, so why should they spend any money improving quality when there will always be buyers?

A perfect example is their official policy that burning 9 gallons of oil every 15,000 is "normal". It is laughable and says alot about those who accept burning any amount of oil in a street car as normal. For some reason, burning NO oil or burning 1 quart every 600 miles is considered normal? That's some fine quality control, isn't it?

For decades, it has been up to Porsche owners to resolve many design and quality problems with their cars. Looks like that will have to continue.

No RMS leak after car sitting for 3 months and then after sitting for another 6 months. Seems like whether you use it or not - it doesn't make a difference. Let Porsche figure it out!
