Sales May 08 GT3 & RS
#31
May I jump in again along with Corsican and ask if anyone has an idea of the total numbers of 997 GT3 and RS?
My personal estimate is around 2000 per each model give or take 500 cars.
Thanks!

The only reliable numbers we have come from MJones. Most recently, for the USA only, thru May 2008:
914 GT3
404 GT3RS
Since about 36% of what PAG produces is sold in the USA, if you multiply the above by 3 you will get a rough estimate of total production:
2700 GT3
1200 GT3 RS
There is a mk II coming. I'd guess they will make as many mk II as mk I.
It is interesting to note that regarding the 996 GT3 and GT3 RS (996 RS was not sold in the USA), PAG made a total of 2500 GT3 and 700 GT3RS. 996 GT3 was available in 2000, GT3 mk II available March 2003.
I'm not sure when the 997 GT3 became available, but the RS was being delivered as early as November 2006. The mk II should be available by the end of 2009/early 2010.

I wouldn't bank on that. USA market often has different proportions of model distribution. It could be as high as 50% for the GT3 and RS. In many countries taxes on cars are so high that buying any Porsche is expensive enough and a GT3 is something seen only on posters. Also keep in mind that currently the price is a bit subsidized.

Australia and Singapore f'rinstance. The GT2 is a half million aussie dollars -- with US$1.00 = AUD$1.06 ... that's basically parity compared to it being 50 cents around 2000.) The US list for a GT2 is a tad under US$200K and the dealer mark-up on "first kid on the block" cars is maybe 10%. Chump change! : )

Agreed. I saw somewhere that the USA was getting 30% of the 997 GT3 production. I used 36% in my post above because another source mentioned 40% of PAG's production comes to North America, with the USA getting 36% and Canada getting 4%.
Also, if you look at the spread of VINs, you will notice that the RoW cars have VINs ending in 0xxx and 1xxx, while USA cars go from 2xxx to 3xxx. The VINs give a rough estimate that the USA got approximately 1/3 of the GT3 RS production.
