Mine suck too. But its the law now aint it? But what bothers me about this whole mess is Porsche
isnt really a car company. Its an engineering firm first IIRC, and then a car manufacturer 2nd.
In my opinion this system is just not well engineered. But then again, the ones in our BMWs arent
works of art either.

i have now figured out how to kill tpms.
that said, they tpms on porsche is miles ahead my wife's lexus or my DD bmw. now those are both POS jokes.

Moot my dealer is 100 miles away and I havent been there in awhile. Also since they want 3 days to get my second key to work I am not in a rush to get over there to have them kill my TPS. Knowing them they will give me back a Hundai when I go pick it up.

TPMS is inaccurate most of the time. If you track your car it will be a pain in the...... When you go to the dealer take Mootys instructions along (from another thread). The dealer in Santa Barbara was willing to disconnect it for me, but was not able to get it right untill I faxed him the instruction sheet Mooty posted.
Do your self a favor and have the dealer disconnect it and forget about it.

TPMS Sorta sucks.
Porsche has to provide it as part of our regulated cars.
Porsche really is not o blame, BERU the OEM is.
It's too bad that we cannot program a cold pressure for track.
As it is, if my cold pressure is down (-4 lbs) the warning lights appear, disconcerting since it never re-adjusts as the tires get hot.
For MY09 there is supposed to be "Upgraded" TPM with faster display, lot of good that does for us

I find it interesting that the TPMS in my GT3 is so inaccurate. The rather primitive system on my '91 928GT works better; just a warning in the central display that you can immediately delete and was accurate to 3-4psi under-inflation.
I don't miss it though as it can be defeated with a jumper wire (which I did when I went to a larger wheel/tire combo).

In the set menu there is a TPMS setting. I am not sure at what pounds the warning kicks on but I can run 31 lbs. according to TPMS without triggering flat tire warning.

even the best tire pressure gauge ( you know the F1 team uses are not the same from one gauge to another).
it's they are not predictable. sometimes they let you get by with -4lbs, sometimes -3, sometimes -5.... then what's the point?
and really you can be 5-6 lbs off on street and have NO problem driving at all. and if you are on track, we all use a handheld gauge anyways. so i see no need for that.
when you are on track, hot pressure of low 30's will give you 26lbs (for me) on my drive home. the light stares at me all the way home. if there was no way to kill TPMS i would have sold the car.

I followed Mooty's instructions, found a mechanic with a PWIS tester. He turned off the airbags when I put the Euro seats in and the TPMS at the same time. 900 miles later all is well. I was getting the red and yellow light prior to turn off but never the tire failure chime.
Mooty is there a chance that dealership will reprogram automatically if the car is taken in for service?
