Datax had the same problem on his 996 GT3, TWICE! Once on the freeway and once at the track. Yup; flatbed-ed twice.

Coolant hose topside engine block gave way...decorating Highway 59....

Dealer noted it was the 2nd 997GT3 they'd seen with the issue...

Back in 2002 my Mk-I GT3 dumped its coolant on the street and had to be flatbed'd. I was told there was a hose recall for hot climates that had not been done on my car.

Richk -- I didn't have any coolant on my rear bumper (fortunately) -- I think I got lucky and caught the leak early before things had gotten really bad -- the coolant leak was on both sides of the car, right in front of the rear wheels (on garage floor, immediately after taking her for a spin). The tech at my dealer said the coolant leak came from the passenger side hose (on account of a loose or broken clamp) and that there is tremendous pressure running through the system (even after the car is stopped); he apparently had to clean off much of the underside of the car. Argh. Sounds as if there may be a pattern here, and I wonder if Porsche needs to look at a fix?

Default Hose Clamps

At the recommendation of my local mechanic, he replaced each and every hose clamp on my 996 with stainless screw type clamps. He said the stock clamps on the 996, and they are the same on my 997C4S, can fail. Based on this post I see now that he has a point

Once in Sept 07, on Sun, 2nd day of PCA GGR DE/TT event at Thunderhill.

3rd session on Sun, near the end of the session coolant light came on, when I pulled off the track the car behind me started honking me to let me know I was losing fuild, then engine temp when up to 245 and I turned off engine, coolant all flushed out (looking from behind, coolant came out on driver's side in front of rear wheel).

Flatbed back to my regular dealer instead of the closest dealership due to the fact of RMS repair one week before. Dealer said it was two loose heater hoses...

FYI...I had to topped off coolant after the RMS repair once and on Track day Sat filled coolant back up (20oz)...I think I had a slow coolant leak after the RMS repair. Come to think of it, I almost lost the back end on turn 6 (Sun session 2), but corrected with steering input

watt: what is the price of diesel down there? I have the GL and was going to drive down to help my daughter move. Even a 27mpg it might be cheaper to fly. She lives W. Hollywood

I have seen a few cars wreck due to lost coolant on the track. So lucky you did not have that, iinvest in the F&L screens for radiator protection. If you have not.

F&L = Fahrnbacher Loles, correct? Do they make screens for the 996 GT3? I have "custom" screens made by the local Synergy guys from Home Depot stock.... though they could look a bit nicer, however!
