my RS dumped its coolant today
Ok...hear is the story! I went to Willow Springs today with Jack and the other track junkies. It was a great day and I did about 50 laps in the car. On the way home about 20 miles from the track I notice the temperature starting to rise at a rapid rate. About 2 minutes later a warning light comes on and I pull over.
When I get to the side of the road it is clear that all the coolant is gone from the car. The car is being towed back into Los Angeles and I am sick over this.
Are there any GT3 owners who have experienced similar problems?
Thanks,
Rich

I can think of three possible scenarios (and these are common on 996 GT3s):
1) You could have blown a coolant hose. They tend to get brittle and break during hot track days. I now change my hoses once per year. Cheap insurance..
2) The coolant reservoir may have broken at the seam. Replacing the reservoir is not that expensive.
3) The coolant valve may need to be replaced. They can spring "fast leaks"...
Those are all that I can think of... Personally, I have dealt with #1 & #3. With that said, those are the ONLY problems that I have had with my GT3 at all over the years....
Good luck.

I've seen this happen on two turbos and one GT3 (996) where the passenger side coolant line going into the motor came out. It's a POS clip that holds it in there... Too bad and hope that's all it is. Or something more related to the front radiator in terms of hoses coming off or cracks. Was there coolant at the back at all?

Is there a better hose clamp or something we can put on to prevent this from happening? I'd hate to dump coolant on the rear tires while going around a high speed corner at the track...

Are there any holes in your radiator ?. In my 996GT3 I had a hole from a rock or other debris the very first session out at Sebring. If it was not for NGT being at the track with about 12 cup cars, my weekend would've been ruined. With the RS, I did not even bother trying to track the car without the screens, I put them on when the car was brand new.
