Congrats CJ! I look forward to your post after a track day with that nimble ride. I have the "spec" bug myself and am looking at 944s, Boxsters and Miatas. More qualfiied second-hand feedback would be great!
And btw - I have four cars as well and a 1 car garage. Thank god the wife supports this addiction!

colby: there is a great BMW race car for sale up here in Seattle. Class winner last year. Owned by a friend . His son raced it last year and they just bought a GT3 cup. Let me know if you are interested and I will PM you their contact info.

CJ, here is another option for racing. Spec Racer Ford. Sealed engine, transmission. New engines are about $3K and rebuilds half the price. We lap a little bit faster than the Miatas. Weight with driver is minimum of 1670#. Price for a new model is $30K. Used you can get for about $20K. We use Goodyear slicks and rains and are $600 a set.

I was looking at SRF's too but nobody else runs them here at my track...I can't really "race" until october every year because of my job, so I just need track toy to abuse all fall/winter. I've got pretty good access to miata service out here and will have a lot of quick guys in spec miatas and miata turbos to chase down. Once my lap times get fast enough, I'll try to do a race or two through a miata club somewhere as a type of "final examination" to my summer of studying the car.
Hopefully around this time next year I can step into a GT3 cup car.

Very cool!! I'm in a similar situation, running a Spec Miata this year. Not fast in a straight line, but a lot of fun to run with a pack of pretty much identical cars!!

Gotcha. Here in Portland people drive some DSR cars on DE days as well as an occasional SRF. For bang for the buck they are quite the buy as, as are the Miatas. Have fun!

You will have blast. I purchased a SCCA T3 S2000 to play with when I got my comp license. One thing to watch on the MX5 is the engine bottom end is not as robust as the older Miata's. A friend did an MX5 Cup test and found out the hard way. Do not over rev as the bottom end will come apart soon after.

CJ just dont get into a habit of rubbin fenders or swapin some paint. Thats not a biggie on Mazdas but youre gonna cry the first time you do it on your 997 MkII Cup
