Light Weight Flywheel for GT3 . . . Questions
I may have an opportunity to have a light weight flywheel installed in my 997 GT3 in conjunction with some other work.
What is involved to do this, besides the flywheel itself?
Are certain flywheels more advantageous than others?
Is any other mod necessary in conjunction with the LWF?
Are there significant and noticeable benefits to do so?
I track my car frequently.
Thanks

The LWFW is a great mod especially if you can get the labor covered. A shop will guide you through but: clutch, pressure plate, bearing and bolts. They are all Porsche numbers and made by Sachs.

997 GT3 RS LWFW Clutch Kit
Here is the list if the link does not work:
-RS clutch disc
-throw-out bearing
-guide tube
-flywheel bolts
-throw-out bearing fork
-ring gear
-RS pressure plate
-RS light weight flywheel
Everyone who has an RS seems to love their clutch, and those with the regular GT3 who have done the conversion seem to love it even more. It appears to be one of the top, if not the top mod for the GT3.
And if you mostly track the car, then the benefits of the LWFW are even more noticable.
Btw, Sharwerks knows exactly which parts to get, including the longer bolts that the RS clutch assembly has, but for some reason Porsche does not know how to send the correct length bolts. This is what I remember Alex saying anyway.

Unless you are installing an aftermarket alu style flywheel then you do need to replace the clutch pack since it's different (ring gear etc...) hence you put the whole shebang in you're doing the 964 (RS) steel flywheel.

This is from another post:
the part numbers for the pulley are:
K99610201793 for the GT3
K99610201795 (F004) for the RS
You'll also need these if you're doing an RS one:
993 102 550 80 (bolt - M14 x 1.5 x 40)
999 025 174 02 (washer - yes it's really a different part number).
It's easy to change while you're there and others have reported on a TSB for retourquing (Snowboarder) the bolt.
Weird thing is I've seen the lower one on newer GT3s. So maybe Porsche started to use those. Then again I've seen a Tiptronic steering wheel in a GT3 before too
As Colm said tho.. we know of one case on the GT3RS as well (on the East Coast). I don't know if it was over-revved as I didn't see the ECU.
You need the Porsche tool that tighens the pulley from a 996GT3.
PS. Loc-tite is your friend.

My dealer does a lot of late model P-car performance work. He has heard of 4 instances in the US of the pulley failing. He suggests to not replace now because he is unsure of the other circumstances. If it needs replacing, it is easily accessible.
